If i remember correctly, driving a go-kart was a lot of fun in GT6. But now in GTS it is kind of stupid. I can turn my steering wheel at most 5 degrees to the left or right to make a turn. Anything but realistic. Hopefully PD will adjust that in the future.
It was a nightmare for me at the start (using a wheel) cause the sensitivity in the steering wheel was immense but once i got used to it i loved it! But i think it definitely needs an adjustment!
I had to break down and use CSA for the kart race today. Even with sensitivity knocked all the way down, I had hardly any play in the wheel. Catching slides was pretty much impossible for me without it.
I did fine without CSA in the kart race they had back during the pre-release demo. It was really sensitive but this was just on another level. Not sure what they changed but I was not able to adapt to it this time.
They're really tough to control, but once you can control them, I think they're a blast.
Something even crazier is doing laps at Blue Moon with the Tomahawk X (not the others, the X that does >500kph and stops on a dime).
Karts are amazing , once you "get" the handling it is absolutely spot on.
Don't drive them like a car.
Go to willow springs horse thief mile ll and just practice, i guarantee you will be addicted after 10 laps.
Driving with wheel is just fine, when your backbone realises at it's kart then it starts to flow.
Horse Thief Mile toke ~5 laps for backbone and bit more to get it better on hand.
My personal problem was backbone realising it as kart, but my backbone doesn't understand all wheel brakes on kart, after pushed brake balance all to rear it started to go like kart which my backbone understands.
Don't take video as a good driving, no idea of braking points or lines yet.
The sensitivity is ridiculous, I spent 1 hour trying out that kart last night and when I switched back to driving a 4C road car my brain forgot how to drive it and I couldn't stay on the track because of the crazy difference in sensitivity.
Agreed. Had no problem whatsoever. I can imagine it being harder with a pad though.
As for the steering being unrealistic, I can't say as I have never driven a high-performance cart. You really can't compare the cart in GTS with rental carts.
But given how light a cart is, I could well believe it being very twitchy and requiring fine steering input when going at higher speeds....
I think the Kart handling is perfect and pretty much like a real kart. You literally throw it into the corner and use the acceleration to pull you tighter and out of the corner. I use brakes very rarely when driving karts, but you sort of have to be fearless and precise otherwise you will go flying off track.
The steering angle is not really an issue with the Karts in GTS at all, take a look at any Karts running at speed and you will see that not much input is needed, particularly on tracks built for cars.
I don't however find them massively intuitive, but that's more to do with the load transfer than the steering angle.
Yeah, I think this feel we have is more because we’re using the karts in real car tracks. We’re always too fast to use a lot of steering input. If we were to slow down and use 1 and second gear, we would probably need to steer more. That said, karts usually require less steering input, because brakes and throttle tend to make it oversteer a lot.
The problem I have most with the handling is how it wanders everywhere, the effects of I'm guessing very negative caster is extremely exaggerated. Run a kart on northern isle speedway and try to maintain a smooth consistent line through the corners. Even with nerves of steel its still going to wander
