Don't know if it has been mentioned.
In this interview with Dutch online magazine Bright, Kaz mentions DLC as a possibilty to expand GT5:

"Ik kijk wel naar alle mogelijkheden om Gran Turismo verder uit te breiden. Daar werken we nu al aan. Voor Gran Turismo 5 is downloadable content een mogelijkheid om dat aan te bieden."

Freely translated:

"I look at all the possibilities to further expand Gran Turismo. We are already working on that. For Gran Turismo 5, we could offer this in the form of DLC."

Earlier Kaz didn't seem to be that enthusiastic about DLC...

Well last year in a OPM interview he said:

"Let me be clear on this. There is a massive amount of content in this game, I don't think there are many teams that can put as much into a game as we can." he said. "The launch of the game isn't a start, we are releasing the full game"

"Everything we want to put in the game is on the disc when it ships," he continued. "Having said that, we do have a sizable online team that will look after it once it's launched"

He did mention about motorbikes being a possible DLC, but what we really want is more tracks and a variation of weather/time system. I would definitely pay extra for those.

Is there any chance that the ability to change wheels on standards could be DLC? Or is that sort of stuff impossible?

Im only lvl 16. It seems to me that there isnt an awful lot to do. Its still loads of fun of course, but its a small game.

I doubt it. Most DLC is just adding cars/parts to a list of cars on the hard disc, changes to the actual structure of the game would be difficult to achieve, and would probably involve un-installing/re-installing the game at a minimum

At the launch party it was said:

"Today is not the finale. Today is only the beginning of a new era for Gran Turismo," the series creator insisted that his team's work on the project was far from complete.

Go figure.

To be fair, yes there is a massive amount of content in the game, but there is alot of stuff people expected to be in the game Kaz. Trailers with tracks that are not in the game and a number of no brainer cars that aren't.

Simple - why not make new cars for GT6 and offer them as DLC in GT5? It will help fund GT6 and also give the fans what they are asking for.

True, but i think what was meant is that GT5 is based upon a completely re-engineered platform for them .... which means that they have a new baseline to build upon for future Gran Tursimo.... which i interpret as 6 will be quicker/easier to develop because all the core engine is now ready and scalable

Not that I paid that close attention to the trailers, but what tracks did they show that are not in the game?

Also how funny would it be if the first DLC was 100 more variations of Nissan GTRs.

''Thank you all Gran Turismo fans for buying the non-complete product we had in the making for the past 5 years. We will now offer DLC in exchange for money, content which should have made it in the game in the first place.

Best Regards

Like a previous poster said, I think Kaz was referring to future releases in this series (eg. GT6) for the next console. I would welcome DLC if it happens and if it includes things I want in the game like more cars and more tracks. But, it's probably better to enjoy GT5 as-is and keep an eye on Sony's next console release for more from PD.

@ 1st post,

sounds like far far away for me... "I look at all the possibilities to further expand Gran Turismo" sounds like "yeah maybe we start doing something in 1-2 years"

I´m ready to pay 10€ a month for car packs like T10 offers... They has a great choice of cars and the car list in GT5 is still very dissapointing... 500 japanese cars... There are such great Ferrari´s out there and what we get is really boring... Ok the Scuderia is great and the F40 but the rest, hmm...

I can't find the quote now, but after launch, Kaz also mentioned that GT5 was a fluid concept, that they want to add more features and that they'll look to users to help develop them.

As I already said, PD, take my money... make as much DLCs as you want. I'll buy ALL of them.

Even a pack only with Beetles...

DLC would be good for extra tracks, events and maybe some new premium cars. At the moment most of the things that have been asked for (mechanical damage, brakes on parts menu, AI fixes, shadow improvements cockpits etc) sound more like patches than new content, in which case should be free

It would be a good way to extend the life of the game as long as its worth while stuff

Well, Prologue is one of the few games I've noticed that can even have the physics engine updated. It was evidently a test bed for GT5 in many ways.

As for content, I don't think that it would be a huge issue to make including the old wheels from GT4 and making them swappable for the Standards. Black silhouette cockpits at least either, but then I'm not working there. We also don't know what Kaz has in mind for GT5. For all we know, there will be DLC, and as they build Premium cars for GT6, tracks as well, they may offer some of them as additions to the Standards. After all, we got 36 (?) cars and a track for free in Prologue, something that would have cost us at least $25 from Microsoft. So if we do end up paying for more content in GT5, the cost may not be very much.

In fact it shouldn't be too much, because there are a crowd of unhappy campers in GT land... :p
