This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Kazunori Yamauchi Recalls Toyota’s Early Faith in Gran Turismo at Event with Akio Toyoda

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi spent Monday evening at the Italian Embassy in Tokyo, where more than 200 guests gathered for a motorsport-themed reception marking the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Italy. Polyphony Digital was part of the program, and Yamauchi came away with a few things to say about Toyota’s place in Gran Turismo history.

Amazing for such a big company to take a gamble on a young man's vision.
Look at how many of us, through generations, were the first to sample many of Toyota's concepts and production cars before the rest of the world.

Toyota, through Morizo, know the value of Gran Turismo enthusiasm. Good stuff!

Fond memories of the Supra with the Castrol livery pure filth in the first game, makes you wonder what was discussed about the future of GT.
Opened this thread looking for a mention of the Castrol Supra. Thrilled to see it in the first reply! That car on Grand Valley et al is precisely why GT will always have a special place to me.

So, we kind of have Toyota to perhaps partially thank for GT's beginnings. Very interesting article. After all these years, I'm driving a Toyota, ironically 😆

Some high performance Toyota Camry’s would be a nice addition.
