During the heat of the space race in the 1960s, the United States National
Aeronautics and Space Administration decided it needed a ballpoint pen to
write in the zero gravity confines of its space capsules.

After considerable research and development, the Astronaut Pen was
developed at a cost of approximately $1 million. The pen worked and also
enjoyed some modest success as a novelty item back here on earth.

The Soviet Union, faced with the same problem, used a pencil.

Yep, old.

Except pencil isn't as permanent as ink. And 1 million dollars isn't a hell of a lot of money for the government.
But it is for the people who ARE paying for it, US!

Hey man, I am just trying to entertain here... old or new, they make me laugh. :D

Yeah, but I don't care about tax payers from the 1960s. I wasn't even born. I guess you could say it has an effect on the economy today, but I'm sure it is very slight.
