THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING! so recently i had to rebuild my hard drive. i have my most current gt6 saved data on a usb flash drive. if i upload my data to my rebuild hard drive will it be able to work? i am going to use the same account and everything as well. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

As far as I'm concerned, you should be able to use your save without a single problem.

Remember to keep a backup save around! :D:tup:

Did the same thing last week.
Synchronised my trophies online first and then installed GT6 all over again.
Took just over 7 hours to download and install all the updates.
Then added the save game which I had on a flash drive.
Note that the pictures of the cars in your garage and stock yard are not visible. You have to update them all... Takes a long time depending on how much cars you own. In my case 1305 cars and that took a few hours...
Everything works perfect now.
The only thing I lost were all my messages

If you don't mind me asking, how do you rebuild your hard drive?

Well, the way I described. Formatted it and then like above.
That is what OP meant I believe ... Restore the data...
I did not physically rebuild it...
I forgot to mention that the initial files had to be restored also, because they were corrupt.

How do you restore the initial files? Because I spent my afternoon reinstalling all the updates and it's not done yet it's installing in the game as I speak.

To give you the complete picture (for future reference ?), this is what made me perform all this.

My PS3 fat (500 gig) started acting weird last week.
- I got kicked offline several times while in seasonals. Each time I wanted to restart a TT, the screen went black, while the background music kept playing. No times were recorded.
- In the home menu, the little timer (which usually works a few seconds) always kept turning for about 50" on each and every action in did.
Also, when I shut the system down I got 3 short beeps ! Never had that happen before.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I started looking around the Internet (I don't know a lot of computers) and found some possible problems: hard disc failure, disc drive failure, system overheating ...
Checked the last part, but since the PS3 has enough cooling space behind it and is standing on an aluminium plate (and the outgoing air was barely warm), that could hardly be the issue.

Having read what to do, I started with synchronizing the trophies online (if you don't, you lose them all - says Sony)

Then I was going to make a full backup on a external 320 GB hard drive (formatted to fat32 - since that is needed to be recognized by PS).
After some 15' I got the message that there was not enough disc space available !?

Reading again on the internet, I learned that it was better to format the external hard drive on PS3 itself.
Did that, but after a few moments I realized that I must have hit a wrong button, since the system was formatting the internal drive...
Well, no harm done, I just had to re-install the whole game (I had my game savings on a flash drive).
That was really time consuming, but after some 7 hours, I restarted the PS3, got a different background in the XMB menu, fired up GT6 and started with a track day on Brands Hatch (with a lot of explanation how to play the game)

So, now it was time to use the backup of the game data. That done I got all my credits and cars back, also the full statistics.
The only thing that was missing were the car icons in garage and stockyard. I had to restore them too, and that also took a long time.

But in the end the little timer was still counting for about 50" in the home menu... :banghead:

Then I found the manual I linked in my post #7 (above this). Did that and everything works fine now (after re-adjusting some of the custom settings).

So, probably this should have been my first action. Would have saved me a lot of time.

Hope this helps people who suffer the same problems... :sly:

I've used the recovery mode before, it helped for a while but obviously things went bad for me again. ^^ I've used "rebuild database" then "restore file system" back then should I also use "restore default settings" or "restore PS3 system"? Also, is there a particular order to do all that?

Here's what I would try, and in what order.

Check GT6 disc ... quick and easy
Clear cache (Option menu in-game GT6) ... quick and easy
Restore File System (Safemode) ... quick, nothing lost
Rebuild Database. (Safemode) ... slower, lose some incidentals like messages, music playlists
Delete Installed Game Files (Option menu in-game GT6) ... slower, loading times increased until data installed back to HDD from disc
Delete Game Data (PS3 XMB) ... slow, all GT6 update patch downloads required
Restore PS3 (PS3 XMB) ... slow, full format of HDD, lose absolutely everything from console

If you do the "restore file system" option, your problem will be solved. The exact same thing happened to me a year ago and I did this option, and had no problems
