Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000

What it is: It's a sleek, flat, wireless bluetooth, and active backlit keyboard
What it costs: $300 ($200 off eBay for me)
How long have you owned/used it: 2 weeks
Pros:
* Very flat
* Bluetooth is great and effortless as always
* Short cut keys and the M$ software make it really flexible for mulitasking (although I haven't set it for use yet)
* It says I can connect other bluetooth devices, but the things I connected didn't do anything. Ex. BT headset.
* If you have bluetooth built-in there's no need to use the included dongle
* backlit is active, meaning it "senses" when you are in the vicinity of the keyboard.
* Keyboard can still be used while charging.
* Comes with Rechargable AA batts that are cheap to replace
Cons:
* Feels cheap
* Little directional pad/ mouse on right upper corner worthless (why "they" industry bother)
* Multimedia buttons on left don't work (assuming I have to have MCE to use) vol. works
* Charging base is odd but at least functional
* Batt don't seem to hold charge as advertised.
* No number pad
* Price
Overall Rating: 6.5/10
Conclusion: While on paper this sounds good, the actual product doesn't really live up to what it promises. I guess the biggest reason is that it really does feel cheap. I feel like the buttons will wear off fast and the kinds of material used just isn't up to par with some from say Logitech. I think that's where they "cut the corner".
The Backlit aspect is rather interesting though seeing as it really works as it should when I want to type. When I'm done or leave it seems to have a timer and goes though a process where it goes into "stand by".
There are "touch" buttons at the top which don't have any physical feedback that they've been pressed which sometimes lead me to ask, why couldn't they do it that way with the whole keyboard then? But on second though I don't think I'd enjoy it because just pressing escape feels odd.
