What is with these guys? My daughter has been listening to them heavily.

The music is actually very listenable - they sound pretty tight, readable influences, but still with their own musical texture.

But the vocals are just horrible. I mean horrible. The lyrics might be good if you could understand them, and if one line of the chorus wasn't repeated dozens of times. The delivery is just atrocious.

Caleb Followill has got to be the runner-up for the coveted Scott Stapp Award For Most Annoying Vocal Performance Evar. It's a shame, because it totally destroys what could probably be a pretty good band.
 
I've long suspected that TKOL enjoy a largely feminine fanbase, and their lyrical themes are often overtly sexual/brooding 'masculinity' that seems to appeal to the girlies...

Caleb Followill certainly has a distinctive voice, and I don't find it entirely disagreeable, although it did take me a while to discover that he's actually singing in English... although he does carry on a fine tradition in a similar vein to CCR's John Fogerty, who has a distinct tendency to garble his words...!
 
something about the mix of what sounds like the chili peppers with green day that makes it almost nostalgic to listen to. try listening to the song "milk". its a bit of a departure from what your daughter most likely plays.

I like the music, but the vocals just kill me. There's nothing quite as annoying as somebody repeating the same line 37 times during a song and being unintelligible all 37 damn times.
