GTPlanet, you know I don't really care about anything that isn't road racing or stock car racing. Eldora is usually called the "Mecca of Mud," but if there's a race that American "dirt track" public loves, it has to be the Knoxville Nationals. Whether you think that I'm giving in to typical American racing, or think that I'm just offering a variety of topics regardless as to how I feel about the motorsport in general, I provide you this thread with the upcoming sprint car race in Knoxville, Iowa, USA. No, I'm not talking about the Tennessee Volunteers of Knoxville, TN. But Knoxville, IA. Anyhow, if you wish to talk about this popular American race with the upcoming race live on Speed Channel, go for it.

Honestly, I'm not going to sit through the duration of the race. You know, all the different qualifiers, all the way up to the A-Main or whatever the main feature is called in sprint car racing. Perhaps my real highlight of racing this weekend has to be NASCAR road racing at Watkins Glen. Then too, I'll be looking at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb coverage on Sunday. But as far as this Saturday Night classic goes, I hear a lot of places are going to be represented. I've heard America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and a few others. I know my boy Schrodes down in Australia likes sprint car racing, so I'm sure I'd hear from him about this.

Anyhow, just because I don't really like a motorsport or motorsport event doesn't mean that introduce it for you all to talk about, so go for it.

Speedway racing is one of the most exciting forms of motorsport in my opinion. These Sprintcars run with a 410ci motor producing 800hp. They have no gearbox so they need a push start but all of that 800hp is instantainiously delivered to the wheels. Their top wing can produce several tons of downforce at speed. On the subject of speed, these machines can reach 180mph on the larger ovals.
Obviously Steve Kinser is the King of the Outlaws and has the most Knoxville Nationals victories but Danny Lasoski can never be discounted. He has won the last two Knoxville Nationals. The Nationals is not the only WoO meeting at Knoxville during the season. Recent winners at Knoxville outside of the Nationas include Craig Dollansky, Mark Kinser, Stevie Smith and Jason Meyers.
On the Australian front, Skip Jackson, Brooke Tatnell and Kerry Madsen have been our most successful drivers at Knoxville. Brooke Tatnell has won a WoO feature race this season while Skip Jackson is a former Knoxville Track Champion.
There are so many factors that can contribute to a Sprintcar race. Car reliability, changing track conditions and slower traffic (these cars are not permitted to use rear vision mirrors) are some of those factors. While the usual suspects will be difficult to look past, speedway racing is unpredictable and the middle order may get a look in.
I hope those of you in the US who watch the race have fun, I will never see it unless I buy the video.... when it arrives here.... whenever that may be.

I just hope everyone is keeping an eye on the 15k of Chad Kemenah. The All Stars' golden boy has been regularly stealing the bread from the Outlaws' mouths. 👍
