Kutaragi: "...PS3 ...supercomputer"

I could, I hate PC's, I hate the fact that when I spen £1000 on one it's out of date a year later, I hate the fact the I have to spend as much if not more than the price of a new console for the best graphics card. They drain money out of you if you want one that can do the latest things whereas a console can always do the latest things until the whole package gets replaced which is once every 5 or 6 years.

So...... if the PS3 can support most operating systems. Does that mean that we could play HalfLife2 Doom3 Microsoft Flight Sim... e.t.c. on it?

Replace the PC? Well that’s being Sony’s idea ever since. Do you guys remember the PSX? You can run multiple applications on a PC word processing, spreadsheets, manage your personal finances, you name it BUT most of the people are only using the computer to connect to the internet, download pictures/videos from their digital cameras/camcorders and play games. I think this is the target for the PS3. The same market the media centers are targeting.

Think about this: five of ten year ago if you wanted full entertainment at home you needed you own TV (of course), VCR, and several components for your audio system (cd player, amps, etc).
Today you only need a media center and you’re done. All those extra components, that Sony used to manufacture, are redundant now. This is the new trend so if Sony wants to survive they need to provide the hardware people want. The Sony CD player deck has been replaced by a Dell pc running Microsoft software. Not the picture Sony likes.

This i think will be perfect now i can get a PS3 with everything that i need but there are questions that pop up when doing all of this.
1-Will the computer be connected with the gaming system, if so wont people be able to hack into it?

2-How big will it be? Putting all of this sure isnt going to be small

3-What about the Price?

4-Will PS3 be able to have some type of connection with the computer, Download PS game pictures into the computer and be able to edit them.

5-Internet Options?

6-What happens if the computer Freezes?

7-Can you surf the Web and play games at the same time?

I the one thing I would like about using the PS3 and a computer is using the TV as a computer screen (i know u can already do this, I mean effortlessly!).....its alot bigger and less hard on the eyes......

Theres just something about pcs that a console can never match, the way it can be upgraded, the versitility, ya know...I could never replace it with a box under a TV.

Thats exactly my least favorite things about PC's. If I could do everything I do on PS3 that I do on Pc i'd never go back to the expensive mayhem that is a "good upto date" pc.

I have been using a LCD screen for the last (almost) 2 years, both for computer and PS2. It is a screen with a build in tv tuner. I find it much more practical than a tv (PS2). Graphics wise, my "older" LCD screen is not as good as a tv but I can sit as close to the screen as when I am using it for computer work :sly: , hehe (games ofcouse). I can also use the "cockpit and DFP" I am using, for GTR and GT4 because I am using the same screen, (don't have to move things around). I have been thinking to get a beamer for my computer as well for my PS2 ==> way better than a tv and a computer monitor (I think).
The question I asked was about gaming. I would sell my computer if the PS3 could do everything a computer can with all the advantges of a PS. I would still have a computer for pure computer work :sly: , hehe, office, internet, ... for this you don't need to upgrade your computer every year for these simple things!!!!
