Derbyshire-based Bowler Motorsport have an iconic history when it comes to off-road racing vehicles. As constructors for the Defender Challenge rally series, they have applied their expertise to produce a road-going version of the racing car.

Based on the venerable Land Rover model, the Defender 90 Road offers massive performance gains over the standard model. As part of the "Stage 2" upgrade, the 2.2-litre diesel four cylinder is tuned to 195bhp (from 122bhp), and 515Nm (from 360Nm).

Modifications do not stop with the engine. BF Goodrich All Terrain tyres sit on lightweight 18-inch Bowler racing wheels. Further weight reductions come from the exclusive front and rear bumpers, sills and steering guard. The interior comes fitted with Recaro seats, an internal roll cage, a Sparco steering wheel and Bowler pedal box and gearshifts.

Vehicles also come equipped with fettled "fast road" suspension, consisting of bespoke Bilstein dampers, bespoke springs, anti roll bars, bushes and steering dampers.

Bowler are not unaccustomed to making sporting road cars, as shown with the EXR S.
