Lap times/starting race - in own lounge

Evening all,

I have a couple of questions about the way things work when playing online that hopefully someone can clarify. Searched around, but can't find the answers online already.

Effectively, I am trying to set up some regular online play with a group of my friends. We're all on each other's PSN lists, so I figured the best way is to set it up in my lounge (which others reach via Community) rather than an Open Lounge.

However, I have two issues.

1. People who aren't me accidentally starting the race (rather than using the free run option until everyone is present in the lounge). Is there any way to force the lounge into a 'free run only' mode (even if it is on a time limit)? I thought that maybe setting the delay between races might achieve this, but you can still start the race in the interim.

2. Is there any way to ascertain what people's fastest individual lap times are whilst in a free run? I know the free run option is effectively used as a qualifying session for get-togethers like this, with the flexibility to define a grid order as 'fastest first' achieving the 'qualifying' effect. But, whilst members within the lobby/lounge are ranked dependent on their lap times, there's no way to actually see what the lap times are (pole position/fastest lap is of course visible). What I'd like to know is everyone's times and how they stack up.

Are either of these possible and, if so, where are the options? I just can't find them (if they do exist, which to be honest, I doubt).

Thanks in advance for whoever can answer.

For number 2 you can go into "watch race" and use the live timing monitor. This will show you individual fast laps and sector times.

My group uses private lounges exclusively and I can confirm that the only way to see this data is via the in-race time split screen which you can access in free run whilst in the watch race screen and it gives you everyone's fastest lap.

I suggest a 3 lap quali method by getting your drivers to do an out lap, hot lap then an in lap and get them to remain in pits. That works for us.

Regarding the start race button? No answer there but common sense should prevail, your drivers should know that they cannot press the button, just remind them and it should become second nature :)

Thanks very much for the answers, both of you.

Good to know that there's a way to discern each person's fastest lap times.

Curiously, do you know whether if someone changes cars midway through their 'qualifying' you can still see their quickest time?

I only ask because I was testing this today. I have been in my own lounge for a while.

The fastest time (set by me) is 1:36.173. This displays correctly as teh best lap time (overall).

However, I have jumped between numerous cars and gone in and out from the track. Does it only show someone's quickest time for that track session (if that makes sense)?

Currently, I can see my quickest time for my last track session, which was 1:36.520. This is not my quickest time since I joined the lobby, however.

In my experience the quickest time is the quickest for that session & a session being defined by the track, track settings and regulations ie if you change any of those the track resets and so does the time.

Please note that there is no doubt more to this and the above is a passing observation based on experience, I will however pay close attention to this next time I'm on & see what I can learn 👍

People who aren't me accidentally starting the race

I wish there was this option to stop that from happening.
I often hit the "start race" in other lounges by accident. :guilty:

There should be more options to limit controls in your lounge to the host or something.

But there's not.

I usually always open a room on the open lobby that says" PRIVATE STAY OUT". You do apparently get some none readers, which is annoying. Plus this way you can make a fixed host room which is a better connection.

Thanks for the feedback, gents.

Might give the open lobby a try - although randomers coming in might be a bit of a pain.

Would've thought a friends-only room would offer a better connection (generally) than one that is open to all and active on a global theatre.

Regarding lap times, I think you are spot on here. Will need to test more thoroughly to confirm, but I believe any regulation/event/track setting change does indeed reset times.
