Hi all,

Today I joined iRacing, and now I am training with Mazda MX-5 and Cadillac on some track (Okayama and Mosport principally).

My question is:
Where could I find a table with lap times of those cars on those circuits?

I need to compare my lap times with others to let me know whether I can join a race without being laughed at.

Go to "Myracing" -> "my profile" on the bottom of the page. there you can see your records for each car and track

Off the top of my head, running in the 1'01s on Okayama Short in the MX5 is good race pace.
Getting into the 1'02s is good enough to be competitive and beat most rookies. In my first ever races in iRacing I was doing 1'03s average laptime with a best laptime of 1'02 and I won my second ever race with that pace (started on pole with a 1'02.634).

Its more about being consistent though. Its no use being quick if you're spinning out every other lap. Make sure you can complete a race distance in practice with only a couple mistakes before you enter a race.

Rookie league is hell for me, lucky i will promoted tommorow(?)

I had fun moments, i also was suprised i could fairly easy compete for the first places after a little practise, if i wanted to. But some rookies spoil everything. There's always was someone somewhere who find it a good idea to ruin everything.

Some make no use of the spotter, or don't slow down for incidents, whenever i slow down to avoid impact someone else is running into me at full speed. i always am afraid when i had to let someone through or when i have to pass a sometimes slow backmarkers. Even if the race is finished they hit you.

Tell me about it...

For the overall records for the cars/tracks go Stats -> World Records, then enter the data accordingly.

Be warned some records are scary fast, but that just gives more excuse to practice more :dopey:

how long does it normally take you to get promoted?? being in top 3 to 5 all rookie races..? & how many races you have to win to get promoted..?

You don't have to win a single race. You need to race at least two races and have a Safety rating of 3. And wait for promotion day. Or go ahead and have a Safety rating of 4 and you get auto promoted to D-Class.

Where you end up in the field doesn't really matter.

I think you need to win some races to get into PRO :P but good luck with that ;)

Be sure to filter World Record times into the current year and season (2012 Season 2, Season 3 starting tomorrow).

Winning doesn't do anything for promotion, there's no relation at all. What get's you promoted is clean racing, your Safety Rating(SR) is a calculation of how many corners you go trough without incidents and according to that calculation you win SR every race wich earns you your promotion anytime it goes above 3.0 and you have met the required races for that particular class.

Tips:
-let the GRID timer expire and then click on "missed.." to start the race from the pits *do not move until the pits are open (will say closed).

-Time trials are ok for SR/license levelling, 50% of race value I think, run clean laps until the time runs out. It's corners (laps) that count for SR... so go a bit slower, focus on your driving line...

-finish the race. laps count for SR, if you quite after someone hit you are going to lose SR... tough out the repairs, and as long as you can steer safely, keep going..

-Don't be afraid to try someone elses tune from the forum...

-get to SR 4.0 and you auto-advance, immediately, to the next license level... otherwise you gotta wait a month, which is crazy.

-optional repairs : do them or you will likely have broken steering (even after you do them too, which sucks a fair bit). any type of massive wreck and you are probably done... (in C class anyhow)

So, got my system running in a temporary set-up for now (a warning for those thinking about assembling their own PC - stay away from OCZ SSD drives or at least get'em from a place that has 100$ refund policy on those). I've been doing some laps in the MX5 Cup around Limerock. How much of a drag is the auto-clutch? I'm gonna wait to bolt my shifter up until I get the rig completely assmebled, two more screens purchased and PC running fairly solid. So I'm just curious how much slower auto-clutch makes you, if at all.

As i'm Logitech GT Pro user, i also use auto clutch option, but with right rpm's you can change gears without any loss i think.

For MX-5 its between 6900-7000rpm's.

I think its about a 1/10 per up shift. Atleast thats the time I can make up on the long straights when racing with a friend who uses auto clutch. So depending on the track it could add up pretty quick. Of course we havent timed it to be exact.
