So I did the Nurburgring 4hr endurance race yesterday. I chose the 2J because I'd been really enjoying that car up until then, however I don't think I'll ever want to drive it again now. After four hours I didn't complete one 'clean' lap, kept understeering and spinning endlessly on the grass. Very frustrating.

Anyway, got to the final 10 minutes and didn't bother to pit for the final lap, which turned out to be a big mistake. I was halfway through the lap when the time ran out but still had to bring the car back to the finish line. By the time I reached the long straight my tyres were completely destroyed and I couldn't even drive in a straight line. Thankfully I'd already lapped everyone but they all proceeded to overtake me again. No worries, I thought, they're still a lap behind. But then as I'm spinning hopelessly down the straight my position goes to 2nd, then drops all the way to 7th! This is some time after the cars had passed me. I was staring at the screen in disbelief, cursing my stupid tyre-less car and ready to eat my GT5 disc but finished the lap anyway, as I'd come this far.

Thankfully when I crossed the finish line my position went back to 1st and I breathed a sigh of relief. Bit weird that the game thought I was being overtaken, even though I was a lap ahead, and weirder still that my position starting going down long after the cars had overtaken me.

Another thing I noticed: over 2 million exp for completing that race. Is it me or has that gone up significantly?

You get double exp when you finish a race going on just the rims (no tyres) :dopey:

It's not a glitch. I discussed this yesterday in another thread:

Endurance races based on time and not distance will classify a car that has completed the time before completing their final lap temporarily ahead of a car that is still on its final lap and has not yet finished if it has completed the same number of laps.

So if I'm on lap 27 when the time finishes, any car that crosses the line to complete its 26th lap - the same number as me - after the time has finished but before I finish my 27th will be temporarily classified ahead of me. This isn't an issue as the race doesn't finish until I do, and when I do I'll be classified ahead again. It is an issue for the AI though, as they can be on their 27th lap when time expires and the player can complete their 26th, be classified ahead of them and immediately "X" through the screens to retrieve the 1st place money and XP.

It's technically not incorrect - if a car on the lead lap breaks down after the time has elapsed but before it can cross the finish line it should DNF and the car that completed the most laps in the time before DNFing is the winner. It's just that it can be exploited by the player.

Since it only applies to timed races and you have to complete the same number of laps as the lead car after the elapsed time, it's not a brilliant exploit as you still have to drive the same distance - which means, 4, 9 or 24 hours of working at it either way.
