The laptop still works, but the screen is absolutely, insanely dim. I mean, it's like, 1% visible. It has a dent in the middle but the screen is not broken or cracked.

I accidentally dropped it today, it slipped from my hands. To make matters (slightly) worse I was about to get this game (from eBay) tomorrow.

Seriously though, this is important and I need to fix it. I'm a teen though so don't make me play surgeon.

Could you, as a temporary solution, use a small screen plugged into the laptop through the VGA port? It could help until you get it fixed.

+1, just use an external screen or monitor, I'm sure it has either VGA, DVI or HDMI.

Your other option is to open it up, though.

Have you tried taking the battery out and back in ? That can cause miracles at times for some reason, otherwise go with what shem and risuku say, use connect a monitor through the VGA port (assuming your laptop has one)

100th post!

How old is the laptop? If the screen is that dark there is a good chance that the backlight is dead/busted/disconnected.

I'm also assuming that you have tried to adjust the brightness? On a laptop this is usually controlled with the function key and two of the F buttons (just in case, since we don't know how good you are with computers and whatnot)

There isn't a fix aside replacing the panel (which really isn't that difficult, or expensive, search on ebay for your model), or using an external monitor, which has been suggested.

You could also try setting it on fire. It won't fix anything, but if you upload the video to youtube - millions of hits (just be wearing a Smokey the Bear outfit when you do this).

You're welcome.
