Hey guys.

I received a warning, and an infraction a few weeks back, and it got me thinking, exactly how bad do you have to be to get to last chance status. How many infractions/warnings do you get before you make one wrong move, and you're gone. Just my curiosity bone kicking.

Cheers,

The Banned User Log gives you a good idea of the kind of behavior that's liable to get you banned. Although, reading the AUP is probably your best bet for keeping between the white lines.

You can be banned at any point and for any reason we choose. There is no set limit at which you become one infraction away from a ban - everyone is potentially one infraction away from a ban.

However, that being said, most infractions are worth 10 points. 30 points = automatic ban. So we operate under a general "3 strikes and you're out" policy for most cases. Minor infractions such as lazy grammar or textspk posts are only 5 points (at least at first; however, repeated use after you've been asked to stop is a great way to make that into 10 or more points).

We also can set custom infractions with points awarded using our best judgment. However some things (commercial advertising links, explicit pornography, incredibly vile language, etc.) are going to get an instant 30-point infraction, resulting in immediate ban.

Warnings carry no points and do not count towards a ban... however, official warnings given using the infraction system are logged, and will be taken into consideration should future discipline become necessary. Warnings are there so we can get a user's attention without necessarily punishing them.

Another option we've recently been given are expiring infractions. These can be set to go away after a specified length of time, so that we can get a user's attention a little more strongly than a warning, but without leaving them in permanently endangered status.

And lastly, on the subject of "last chance" status, I will say that there are several users who have been here for years while carrying 29 out of 30 infraction points. They have changed their behaviour to meet our goals for the site, and so haven't had any further trouble with the staff.

Ah, that explains it. Thanks guys. I was just curious, having read the Banned User Log a bit lately, and noticed some things about 'Immediate ban for pornographic image' and then things like 'Ran out of chances. Spam, obscenities, spam, abuse, spam, multiple registration, spam, spam, spam, spam, eggs, chips, spam and spam.' Anyway, thanks again.

Question. So an expiring infraction will simply remove the points from an user's status after it, well, expires (I think I can safely assume) but will the infraction itself be deleted from the record?

'Ran out of chances. Spam, obscenities, spam, abuse, spam, multiple registration, spam, spam, spam, spam, eggs, chips, spam and spam.'

I think that's just the Mods having some fun with it. It can't be that much fun banning people.

I just want to create this thread. Tree'd by tlowr4. :O

Problem is, I noticed some entries are undetailed. For istance, who is <3? Sakiale? Maccasufc?

I actually do like reading the Banned User Log. The mods have a real sense of humour.

No, the record of the infraction will still be in the log, but your account will not have the points attached to it after they expire.

On what I've highlighted above about commercial advertising links is this links where someone is trying to sell something on this site?
Is giving a "Link" to something like (Sears, Wal-Mart) or somewhere else that you can buy something at OK. Something like giving a link to help someone build a "driving rig" out of something that you can buy in a store like this Link OK:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...1&blockType=G11&prdNo=11&i_cntr=1290182795596

Thanks for your reply.

He means that we get "folk" joining solely to post advertising links for phones, ipods, Nike Air Jordans and the like. They go straight to ban without passing go. You, or another member, posting a link saying some shop has a DFGT for cheap is perfectly fine.

It really comes down to context I believe. For instance if you posted that link in a thread where someone was asking for advice it would be fine, however if you made a thread specifically to post that and nothing else(i.e. no discussion about it) it wouldn't be allowed.

Edit: treed

Incidentally, I'd like to point out that tlowr4's avatar is so bad I'm reasonably sure it gave me eye cancer.

You have received an infraction at GTP Forums.

Reason: Explicit / Obscene Comments
-------
The rules about profanities are not relaxed if you post one in a picture instead of typing it out yourself.
-------

This infraction is worth 10 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.
---------------------------

Is there any way we can offer a bribe to get it knocked down a bit.:) (Joking)
Ha Ha yes I did wrong, Stupid dam picture, But it was funny but not worth the 10 points. (Never Expire.)
Can I not just be taken out back and kicked a little.
I would prefer that than looking at them Infraction points.?
Sorry tried to come and find some information on the way Infraction points work.
And how they are dispursed?
Thanks for all the above information.
Chat soon bye for now.:)

EDIT: Opps sorry noticed the date above after posting?

I saw a "give me identification + money details" thread yesterday, reported it, looked it back up today and I'm convinced the moderaters understood and went to a straight ban. Only can find the title in the history now.

Thanks for banning!

Don't worry, the anti-eye cancer medicine will be available world wide next week. ;)

You missed an opportunity for the ban hammer on this, you should just have posted a link to your psychic site that states, "Give me money an I will make the eye cancer go away (no need to travel to me I'm psychic)!"
