I can't turn off ASM and no matter how hard I try to draft on the car that is running up to join the pack, I slowly fade back out of contention even though I am full throttle the whole time. :grumpy: Each time I get to fight it out for last place with the stupid red car who apparently can't shut off ASM either.

Any suggestions?

Update 12/27/2011: What I found out is that you have to turn on ASM and the higher the better on the driver assists - including the steering sensitivity. It took me a little while, but I got the bronze. You can't touch the other cars though. Working on the silver next.....

Yes, if I can get at least bronze on that last daytona race of the Jeff Gordon challenge I will probably never race nascar again. The handling was designed for a lummox.

The same was happening to me, until somebody tell to disable traction control, ABS to 0 and in few attemps I made it.

Is this one where you make a pit stop to start the challenge?

Indeed it is.

Try to draft as soon as possible out of the pit. Keep your inputs smooth. You can take the turns more aggressively than the computer A.I. so use that to your advantage, but remember to stay smooth to maintain a constant speed.

The 1st race of advanced is the one with the pitstop.
The 2nd and 3rd are the "The last 2 laps" restarting after full caution.
2nd is at Indy.
3rd is at Daytona

I haven't done this one in a long time (got gold on all the NASCAR events: ignored forever). Since I finished them, they updated the game and forced the "assists" on.

Turning off ABS will automatically turn off ASM. So if you can, do that and I can almost guarantee an instant win for you. 👍

If you can't, then the other tips in this thread are about the only things that can help you.

That is correct, I completely forgot about the full laps.

How can Big Ass cars with Big ass engines be this boring :p
Like wheres the nos button to pass the last car...
BWUUUEEEERK nascar :yuck:

I did this before and it was crazy hard, hardest event in the game (imo) and I was within 0.002 seconds of beating it, then somebody mentioned turning off ABS (which disabled the stupid forced on driving aid) and then I completely destroyed it, anti-climax of the whole game.

But then i'm sure PD brought out a patch that stopped you from being able to turn off ABS, which would make it the hardest event in the game again. I feel sorry for you.

If you're able to turn off ABS then you're good to go, if not you're pretty screwed but with a lot of luck and a perfect run you will get it.

gonna try these god awful events tonight... raging that you cant turn off the aids... i first played them November/December last year... i quickly exited... wish i'd stuck with them lol

Yes, this is fairly frustrating to pass the other cars. ABS can be set to 1, but not turned off. This event clearly needs to be modeled more accurately. I've tried so many different approaches, but no luck. Any new thoughts out there would be appreciated.

I've seen the videos and know it is possible(I'm told it's really easy) but I didn't have 100,000 hours to get perfect enough to do this one. After the hundredth time of waiting forever to watch the stupid crew change the tires, I just gave up on doing it right. I've suggested it in the past, and I still have no regrets about the rare way I did this stupid boring challenge: CHEAT.

The very instant you get control of the car leaving the pits, turn hard right and cut onto the main track and get one of the first two cars coming after you do so to plow into you. Then you'll be close enough to the front to have a mildly entertaining race with the top couple of cars and time to catch the lead. Then punch Jeffy in the face and take your free car.

If you wait for the proper entry point, the car that you really should be merging behind will do the patented GT5 "OMG It's the player, I better slam on the brakes" thing and creating a huge gap making it ridiculously difficult.

Thanks for the ABS tip. I have golded all the other Nascar tests but can't finish the final test. The Nascar is fun at Indy and road circuits, but I have a mental block about Daytona, I always scrape the wall at some point and loose the draft, the bumps throw my off, its darn hard on the pad. The final testhave your finger on the throttle and jump straight behind the car on the right and rev to the red line for all your changes, squeeze between the red car and the wall and you should pick the tow from the faster car. I have caught the pack up and got to place 5 and then scraped the wall, will try it agin now with ABS off.

+1
Might try your 'hard right' method tho later.
