1 Ive had GT4 for about two weeks now and ive beat all the licences and won some very difficult races, but i cant launch my car properly. What should i do. Punching the gas just burns the tires and slows you. I dont have a dfp so using a controler is starting to tick me off. Please help me out.

2 i have a lotus omega and the car handles like crap. If i do the restore option would that improve the handling? Or if anybody has settings for the car it would be greatly appreciated.

really depends on the car, weight distritbution, tires, power, etc.

i've found using the traction control and using spoilers to set a little more weight on the rear tires for launch with proper gear ratios for the track i can just rev it right to redline and usually tire spin isnt so bad (TCS around 2-4) yet again, highly depends on the car. some of the cars in the game will still be spinning the tires at 100mph if you dont set it up properly

try softer tires, tranny upgrades or work a bit with your LSD, theres another thread here explaining how to properly adjust your LSD

g'luck

The only way spoiler car help your launch is by the few extra Kilograms put over the driving wheels, which GT4 probably doesnt take into account.

Or if there is a mega strong head wind :p.

Some people seem to drive with analog stick for throttle and with it you could push the throttle as sensitive as with DFP. Or you can try starting in 2nd gear ... In GT3 that helped sometimes on some cars ...

Launching from 2nd gear only helps cars with 700hp+
I tried launching on 2nd gear for a sec and then swithching back to first, but i doesnt really help. I put a spoiler on my omega and i doesnt help for ****.
Does anybody have settings for the lotus omega
Ill try launching with the anolog.

I just use the button and press more lightly. Play around with it at the driving park. If you still have trouble, just use TCS. About 4.

I have the same problem with the Trial Celica. When it starts or has to get back on the road after a wipe out, it practically spins the tires through 3 gears. Anyone know how to fix this? I really dont wana downgrade power on it.

All you have to do is ease in the throttle and as soon as your tires catch, punch it.

ease on the gas i find it very easy to launch in any car under 350 hp and after that mark its a bit more challenging but still not overly difficult...you need a light thumb

I usually find myself trying to launch at redline or just under it, and then quickly pressing and releasing the gas until the car gets moving to a point where I'm able to work the throttle well enough to keep from spinning the wheels too bad :o may be worth a try at least.

TCS is there for a reason. It may seem to make you slower, which in most cases it does, but atleast you can complete a lap without spinning your tires through the first 3 gears.

I rarely drive without it, just because i'm lazy. ;)

As you've mentioned trying, use the analog sticks (or better yet, a wheel/pedals) to modulate the throttle better.

In powerful cars, as mentioned, launching off the rev limiter in second gear is very effective in GT3. It seems to be less effective so far in GT4. Here's what I try, in order:
  • Launch off the rev limiter in 1st gear - usually not good for FWD or very high power. Works great with AWD or medium power FR/MR cars, or total weenies like the Kei cars or MINI One.

  • "Flash" launch - idle during countdown, then punch throttle just after last number disappears. With good timing, the revs are just coming up to the thick part of the power band when the game releases the clutch for you. This helps reduce wheelspin.

  • Hold a high engine speed below rev limiter - start around 5,000 and adjust as necessary. As soon as the clutch drops, punch the throttle. This also helps reduce wheelspin and helps the car dig out as the revs drop.

  • Launch off the rev limiter in 2nd gear - not as effective in GT4 as it was in GT3. Revs seem to fall further, requiring a downshift to 1st, but also downshifts are slower, costing extra time. This was key to some license tests in GT3 but seems to hurt more than help in GT4.

another good trick is to do a few test runs and see what maximum speed each gear will go while bouncing off the rev limiter.

Because GT4 uses an inaccurate (well, actually, too accurate) method of measuring the speed, if you start to get wheel spin, at least you can keep spinning the tires all the way up to the maximum speed for that gear.

No gear change is slower then the one that you attempt when you decide to shift to second when bouncing off the 1st gear rev limiter at 10mph.

Basically for all RWDs i do Duke's 'Flash' thing but hold the revs at 3000rpm. Annoyingly, the throttle is much more sensitive on GT4 than progloue so it will take me a while to get used to it.

there is no optimum launch rpm for all cars, it will vary depending on the car, the drivetrain, the amount of power, etc. the easy way is to just turn TCS to 10 and hold the throttle down. i drive with ASM and TCS set to 0 all the time, so this is what i'd reccomend

sit down and gold all the license tests which start from a standstill, make sure you watch the demonstration, this will give you an idea of the general ways to launch a car and how different they can be. you'll also see (as in the very first license test), sometimes it's better to bounce off the limiter in first for a little bit than to shift as soon as you hit redline

i try and find the rpm where i can take off, and don't get wheelspin straight away, sometimes (stock awd or heavy rwd) this may be on the limiter, easy. on lighter cars and FF cars, you'll have some experimenting to do. now, as the car moves forward without wheelspin, hold the throttle steady and let the revs drop, to what point will be different with every car, but trying 1000-2000rpm less than the launch rpm is usually a good bet. now nail the throttle

unless you have way too much power or really crap tyres or the car just sucks (again first license mazda2) you should grab traction and take off. if you still wheelspin, slow down and study what the car's max speed is in 1st gear (with traction), and shift say 5-10km/h before you reach that speed. in cars with a crap clutch and 1st gear wheelspin, you'll want as much speed as possible before you shift, as you'll lose acceleration force whilst the driver changes gear, so you want to minimise slowdown

in some cars, you are better to launch in 2nd gear off the limiter. this makes me thinking back to license tests involving the spoon civic and dodge viper, where i tried my ass off to get within 0.005 or so of a gold, then tried launching in second, and i would have had to tried to MISS the gold

if you're super curious, sit down with a pen and paper and go the the test track and try launching your car in 1000rpm increments and see your results over 400m, write down what you get for each car that's important to you, so you remember when you race

i actually keep an exercise book on the coffee table for writing game crap down (level passwords, gt suspension settings, etc) but that's another story

Got GT4 2 days ago, its fricking sweet but I've noticed this too. When you go into the sand (meh, Ive done it a few too many times...) the car will constantly be redlining, don't worry about it just get back on the track asap.

launching cars with the anolog did help 👍
For cars under 500hp hold it at 3/4 in firs gear after that push the anolog a little further. For cars with 500+ hold the gas at around 65% in first, in second use around 80% or a little bit less, when u get in third or above 90mph just punch it.

I use a pretty basic launch... This is how you would launch a real car at the track... rev to maybe 4k... this all depends on the car and setup.... you'll find a sweet spot if you pay attention, but when the light goes.... or countdown in the game... you pop the clutch to 1st (this happens automatically in the game so its easy) and the car will jump forward and the front suspension will come up (rear drive only, sorry FF guys... you're cars just werent meant to do things like this) at the moment the car peaks and starts to come back down, you mash the throttle... or get as much as you can while keeping traction... or losing just a tad if the tires are sticky enough to not totally break lose. Basically whats happening is the jump (you'll see muscle cars do this all the time at the drags) gets you in gear and sets up for the real launch, as the weight starts coming down... the rear suspension pushes as hard as it can to push it back up. This plants the tires and really hooks up. This is where the term ground pounder came from as ive heard. Of course most of us are launching on circuits not the dragway and its next to impossible to feel all that going on... so just keep it in mind and do the best you can. After all, if your cars are setup to handle at all... they're not setup to launch very well. Its all about transfering weight and generally, thats something we try to avoid in racing. For fun, try it out on an old muscle car, you'll see whats going on.

Got my self a 400 BHP Volvo S 60 and found that using LSD and ASM really steals speed and power. Example: First high speed turn on High Speed ring with aid: 195-200 km/h. Without: 220-230 km/h... General time diference pr. lap 5-10 sec.!!! But, you have to be carefull with that accelerator! 25-30% in 1. st gear, 30-50% in 2. nd and 50-80% in 3. rd then flat out in the others. Drive on my friends 👍

u should also see where boost kicks in, sometimes u wanna be in boost cause if not as u know the needles dies down to gain boosting power

I've been trying pulsing the throttle with incredible results. I quickly vibrate my thumb on the accelerator, haveing the throttle bouce back an forth from 25% to 75% and when I get to about 40 I just punch it then. I've had outstanding results in high powered cars (around 500hp). I'm gonna do a test in a second.

1994 Cietza V16T - 618hp - MR - Sports Medium

Hold RPMs, then launch: 13.277
2nd gear launch - 11.770
Punching it once clutch is released: 12.330
Pulsing throttle: 11.832

1987 Ruf CTR "Yellow Bird" - 493hp - RR - Sports Soft

Hold RPMs, then launch: 12.668
2nd gear launch - 12.048
Punching it once clutch is released: 11.912
Pulsing throttle: 11.958

BMW M3 GTR - 399hp - FR - Sports Medium

Hold RPMs, then launch: 13.811
2nd gear launch - 12.898
Punching it once clutch is released: 13.994
Pulsing throttle: 13.585

Maybe pulsing isn't the answer... It always seemed to work in races.

Okay this might be silly but... is there a way to bust a wheelie with my pretty much stock Chevelle? I've even messed with the ballasts and it does help with traction. I can see the front end lift up once I hit the sweet spot at 3000 rpm but the front tires are still touching the ground.

just push the throttle lightly, you can dose it ...

how does the lsd and asm work? is there a faq of it? or can someone explain it?
