I am sure that some of you already know about this method. However I'm sure that there are also some of you who have not. What I do is this:
*Step 1: Press down on the clutch pedal, select what gear you want to launch
with.
*Step 2: Hold down the E-brake button (Square button).
*Step 3: Press down on the gas pedal, redlining the motor.
*Step 4: Now while holding down the E-brake button, begin to slowly let off
of the clutch pedal in extremely small increments. Only untill you can hear
the load on the transmission beginning to increase. This will sound like
a 2-step rev limiter on a real-life vehicle.
*Step 5: While keeping the clutch pedal steady and the gas pedal depressed
let go of the E-brake button (Square button).

Note: As long as you modulate the gas and cluch pedal accordingly once the E-brake has been released there should be minimal wheel spin. Especially on AWD vehicles as well as some MR platform vehicles. This method produces some crazy launches with the HKS CT230R EVO. With the correct gear ratios you can launch in 2nd gear which will give you a slightly slower off the line reaction, but there is less time wasted making the 1-2 shift. So you get a hard launch that enables you to hold off on shifting until you reach a much higher speed. I must admit however. This works great on some cars, horribly on others.

Because if he had a longer first gear he wouldn't need the "trick". :p

What?!?! First off. I posted in the wrong area. Oops, sorry. But to be honest I happen to know a little something about racing. 20 years of racing NHRA Super Stock will do that to a guy. So I'm not taking guesses here. I actually know what I'm doing. Unlike half the teenage punks in here that like to quote magazines and sound like they know what they are doing.
I'm not turning this into a pissing contest. The info is there. Period!

Making 1st gear super long as not the answer to good launches. It comes down to proper pedal modulation. The game doesnt have 2 steps or trans brakes so this is what I use to get off the line quickly and efficiently.

I love it, tuning doesn't substitute good driving technique...

Cool technique.

I used to have a device called a Line Lok in my Falcon Bracket Racer. Little button attached to the shift lever that triggered a solenoid between my master cylinder and front brake. I'd get to the line, mash the brakes, press the button, release the brake pedal. The lock kept pressure on the front brakes.

Then, I'd get my revs up and use the clutch to preload the driveline.

Your approach sounds almost exactly the same. And, since I have a G27, I'll give it a shot next time I drag race.

Thanks for the tip!
