I don't know why, but the other day I came to think about 10-15 years ago, when me and my friends played with LEGO a lot, and I remember drooling all over the LEGO catalogs from the mid 90's. So... I found LDD and this site which contains all instuctions and catalogs from each year.

The program lacks a few bricks, so if you're building with instructions you may have to improvise some times.

Some stuff I made (from mid 90's catalogs).

I think I owned that gas station when I was growing up.

I also remember this program being posted on GTP, albeit quite a few years ago. I definitely remember a posting about a CAD-based Lego program (complete with exporting the files to a piece-ordering catalogue to actually make your CAD creations).

You, sir, have too much time in your hands.

He might think playing Star Trek: Bridge Commander is having too much time on your hands :p

I for one think the back catalogue stuff is pretty cool. I was just checking out all the early 80's catalogues, boy do they bring back memories.

HOLY CRAP!! I love you! I remember as a kid always drooling over some things. I still have all my legos but this takes the cake. Now I know what to spend my free time on :)

I remember having that car in the middle on pic 1. it's missing it's tailpipes though.
Guess they weren't in the program?

I had a go at it but LDD is missing tooooo many pieces :indiff:

Oh and checking the old instructions and catalogs brought back a lot of memories :)

Awesome find! I loved Lego back when I was a young kid.

Will try and make some time over the next few days to give this a go. :)

No, that just means that I've grown past Lego bricks and moved onwards to big boys toys.. :sly:

K'nex? That is what I moved on up to once I got tired of making models that were fairly static.

This is neat though, I recall seeing all those models pictured above featured in catalogs back in the day.

I used to play around with this about a year ago, made some pretty neat things. I'll try to find some examples of what I made.

I use to have that program(maybe I still do "starts looking though files"). I will post the only thing I made later.

Edit:
Here we go, I found them.

Some info about it:
I have made a lego truck in real life that looks like this. But I had better detail in mine as they are missing alot
of parts for me to build the real thing that I use to make all of the time.

But for this one-

The hood opens

There is a V8 under the hood

Detailed inside

Front wheels do steer

After I stopped building this model I started making them bigger. For an idea I used the wheels that are about 3in around.

Strittan thanks so much for LDD

I had to give up legos because they became too expensive. In my day you could get 1,600 for $20, now you can only get 400 for $20. That's a nickel for every lego. What a rip off.

Anyways I'm going to do some designing now...

One question, how do you grab objects and move them?

I actually have the full version of this because my parents bought it for me when I was like 12 or so. It's quite fun but I usually can't think of anything to build so I end up building a car:sly:.

This one only has working hood and boot, looks like my better one is gone. :guilty:

That still looks good seeing how little the program gives to work with.
Maybe I should see if I still have that on my computer.
