Le Mans cars from 1970's or early 80's?

I know there are a couple like the Chapparals and Toyota 7 but there seems to be a lack of them in GT6. I'm not complaining about lack of content just curious from a historical perspective about why interest shot up as there's suddenly many Le Mans cars from the late 80's onwards but almost none from before.

The group C era of 80's Le Mans cars was quite memorable, it became a hive of big money and huge speed. It was just one of the high points in the sports history when there was a lot of public interest. All motorsports have their moments in the spotlight and this period was the 80s/90s for Le Mans, only so many cars can be represented so they have to choose the ones that were the most fondly remembered or groundbraking.
 
Heh, I just found the reason after looking at previous winners through the years: It was almost totally dominated by Porsche. From 1976 to 1987 Porsche won Le Mans 10 times.

If they are still around you could always go back to the Matra 670 era (threepeat in the early 70's), Ferrari 250-330 from the early 60's (6 in a row!) a smattering of Astons, Jags and other iconic marques of that era. Beauties like this would be a welcome sight for me:

Isn't it more to do with how many Japanese (hint hint) manufacturers and therefore cars were around at that time? Porsche & Aston won mostly, but Mazda, Toyota, Nissan etc were all there with limited sucess, but it's more likely this is why PD piled them all in GT, in the mind of a Japanese' race fan the mid 80s> mid 90s is what you would think of first in terms of Le Mans. Put simply I don't think it's a coincidence.

Additional, yes I know Mazda won. But in the most part they (Japanese manufacturers) weren't successful. I feel I had to put this in to spare the possible "reminders" (attacks).

This is the most plausible reason. Access.
Same reason there are so many Nissan's compared to other car manufacturer's.
 
I'd like to see the CanAm cars modeled. The 1,500 hp (for qualifying) Porsche 930KL and the McLarens & Lola's etc.
