Race Information

  • Round: 1 of 6
  • Duration: 6h or 1000km
  • Track Type: High-Speed Roadcourse, 3.585 miles
  • TV-Broadcast (Europe): Motors TV Flag-to-Flag, Noon (UK time)

Even though this race starts very early for US residents, it will surely be worth getting up. 49 entrys are due to start, including the debut of the Peugeot 908 HDI FAP.

We will have a live-coverage ticker to keep everybody without MotorsTV updated all the way through the race. :)

Let this be known- I LOVE Monza. We may have the ALMS doing Long Beach, but the LMS is getting ready for a wicked 1000km event. The thing I best know this track for is that it's a high-speed battleground. I'm somewhat of a veteran to this track having raced it in a number of games. It's almost too easy to enjoy high speeds around here. But as we all know- the world doesn't have four turns and two straights. The key sections to navigate are Variante Rettifilio(?), Variante della Roggia, and Variante Ascari. Basically, any turn that has "Variante" is crucial to nailing. I've noted that any elevation changes are pretty much minimal. I mean, this isn't Spa-Francorchamps or anything in terms of elevation changes. I almost feel like moving to Europe to see this race from flag-to-flag on Motors TV. At least there, we wouldn't have a few hours of coverage followed by stock car racing or some dirt late model race... then eventually the rest of the race.

I'll try to get more involved with the LMS series as I'm usually semi-committed to the ALMS. Sure love to see highlights of this race.

Practise 1 Results

Somewhat surprisingly, the brand new Charouz Lola topped the timing sheets after the first practise session. The Czech team runs the same Lola as Cytosport but with a Judd engine.

The Team Modena Aston Martin leads GT1 while the Felbermayr-Proton Porsche with Marc Lieb leads GT2.

The infamous Lavaggi LS1 did not complete a lap - the story continues. Another exotic, the GT2 Corvette Z06 did also not complete a lap.

Next practise is due in 90 minutes.

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date, Rob. :)

Pictures of a few cars racing this weekend: Link

That Kruse Motorsport Pescarolo looks good in white, while Barazi Zytek doesn't look quite as good as I had thought it would in Gulf colors. But enough about how pretty the cars look, I can't wait for this race. Hopefully I can listen to it on Radio Le Mans.

Practise 2 Results

The second practise session has been aborted after a fire in pitlane. The C5-R of Luc Alphand Aventures caught fire while refueling, injuring some crew men. :nervous:

Until the interruption, the Peugeot #8 of Pedro Lamy and Stephane Sarrazin led by one second over the Rollcentre Pescarolo and the second Peugeot.

I had to look online for pictures of this Lavaggi LS1. This car looks absolutely beautiful. Here is the entry on the Lavaggi LS1 courtesy of ultimatecarpage.com:

Now, some basic specifications. It is an Italian-made LMP powered by a naturally-aspirated 90-degree Ford V8 with 6000 liters of displacement. It has a six-speed sequential gearbox to it as well. Horsepower and torque numbers were not reported on ultimatecarpage.com as of me using this information. (sly) "Hey, Lavaggi... you want to field some of your cars to... uh... race in the ALMS under P1?"

That's all. Bye!

It looks like third place is going to be close. :scared:

BTW, excellent coverage by The-Paddock.net. I really wish we had live coverage (or even a tape-delay) on Speed Channel or a Radio Le Mans broadcast, but a live summary + live timing & scoring is great. Well done.
