Have a pretty sweet playseat style setup I just got done building. Anyone ever hook up any led or neon lights to their seats? Wanted to add some but not sure if led usb powered lights will run off ps3 usb port. May try hooking up a 6v battery. Suggestions, pics of your mods? Thanks!

Pretty sure they will run off a PS3's USB port, just try to keep it under 500mA (2.5W) of lighting and you'll be fine, a powered USB hub would do also.

My rig is far too ugly (though I prefer the term 'functional') for me to want to add lights to it, though I might add a reading light or something... Plenty of other stuff to do before that, though.

Just run them off an AC adapter... I would never run LEDs that I wired myself off of my PS3's USB ports. Too risky, what if you accidentally short circuit them or something.

Had some LED's laying around, here's what it looks like (The blue light in the upper right is from a different light source):

You could, no, should have a resettable 500mA fuse in place to protect the host device, I think it's part of the USB specification. It would be reckless not to, but I'm sure the PS3 has host-side short protection too. I wouldn't want to find out, though! But yeah, an AC adaptor would make more sense actually given the endless combinations of voltage and current outputs of power supplies. You could run a lot of LEDs with a cheap 12V 1A supply!

im trying to do the same thing with my rig. i have interior neon lights that i used to have in my car, but i dont know how i would wire it (it has a black and red wire) to an something that i could plug into an outlet. does anyone have any ideas?

You could us an ac/dc converter, something like this
