It seems the big three now have a new competitor, one of the worlds biggest PC makers has developed a console which will launch at the end of this year. Its called the eBOX (boy that was original!), and its first market aim is China where other consoles have trouble because they either are too expensive or they don't offer games suiting certain cultural tastes (like the problem Xbox has in Japan). Also there is a massive opportunity for console growth there.

It wont be limited to China though because this console will also be launched worldwide. Apparently it has been in development at Lenovo for quite a while and has its own dedicated spin off company to support it (eedoo). It has Kinect like functionality.

We don't much about it now but coming from Lenovo you know it wont be half baked. I seems to be going for the casual Wii market I could see this turning out like something you would expect the Wii2 to be. The president of eedoo has said the following statements...

“may be slightly lower than Microsoft’s Xbox, which retails for $299.99.”
“Our product is designed for family entertainment. Ebox may not have exquisite game graphics, or extensive violence, but it can inspire family members to get off the couch and get some exercise”

In addition to this news 16 global developers are signed up and the console will come with 30 free games bundled.

History shows us a long list of console train wrecks! Will it be suffer the same fate as all those other 'mistakes'? If China likes it probably not, I might even become the greatest selling console in history.

Interesting...

Sounds like a Next Wii... Maybe it'll be the mix between the Xbox and Wii where it is simple and fun, yet not childish and has graphics better than the wii.

With no well known developers for it at the moment, it will struggle if it tries to take on any of the big 3.

So it's aiming for the Wii market? The same market where anyone that is interested in a Wii already has one?

I sense a flop.

Yeah it may be a flop, but if the Chinese love it, then good for them! They'll make a fortune, China being the most overcrowded country in the world....

If it works, then, good for them...but I sense another Infinium Labs-type situation. Except the console is probably going to be launched or so it seems.

And that name, please, change it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Microsoft file suit over it.

If anything, I'd sue as well because it lacks all types of originality. It'd be just like if you released a cologne named "Justin" and I release a cologne of my own called "Just1n". What's the difference between the two? Nothing, that's what...I just changed one character to make it seem different. :grumpy:

In fact, that's the only reason I'd pursue this in court.

Soo.....it's a Wii that's stolen the Xbox's name....eh.

To Diijital...actually Apple was talking about the possiblity of creating a gaming console...but then they released the iPhone instead. Smart move if you ask me.

I like how it comes bundled with ...... 30 games. 30 games? How good can they be if they bundle 30 of them together.

Well...Xbox comes bundled with Forza 3 and Halo ODST...and PS3 came bundled with GoW 3, Uncharted 2, Uncharted and several others. PS3 definately has the best bundle deals. Those bundles come with games you actually want to play.

I'm pretty sure his point totally went over your head. You're comparing quality bundles to a quantity bundle; who bundles 30 games (free, at that) with a new console that might cost less than the 360's $299.99?

Well its got 16 global developers so I assume we will have heard of aleast a couple of them, plus I bet that the money hungry EA and Activisions of this world will support it as they release games on every platform under the sun! Who would miss the opportunity to break into the worlds most lucrative gaming market!

I'm pretty sure they will be more like mini games, you could say Wii Sports is made up of 5 individual games and Mario Party has over 80 games. Besides this is just the bundle, there nothing to say individual titles wont be more substancial.

On another point, online gaming (MMO's and RPG's) are huge in China and Asia in general. I'm sure this system will have a slew of titles released for it which are from this genre so it might have a solid online system.

Apple should really do a new Pippin (keep the name) with cutting edge tech and styling, would be amazing...

However, Apples upcoming iTV will run on iOS so in thoery you will be able to play iPhone games and apps on your TV, so thats Apple's new console.

Here's a real pic of the eBox,

Yeah I had a Bootleg Mastersystem Cartridge which had like 100 games on it, though half of them were just variations of Tetris.

I had something like that when I was younger. The other half were that worm game or whatever it's called.

Lenovo's console is still in development by their console arm of the company 'eedoo' and its been renamed from ebox to iSec. It's idea is similar to Kinect but uses totally different technology and is designed mainly for the Chinese market and should be out in the next few months.

Its likely to sell by the bucket load. Think of it as a machine in between the Wii and the 360. Nice console case design.
