Sequential vs H-Pattern
Fanatec vs DSD

Let's get some feedback going, I'm trying to decide whether I want an H-Pattern Clubsport shifter or a DSD Sequential..

I know as far as sequentials go that the DSD is the better option (PC only here).

But obviously if you want to drive with an H-Pattern shifter you have to go with something like the Fanatec or Thrustmaster.

I hated my G25 H-Pattern shifter, if felt terrible so I'm worried about the Fanatec, I want it to feel secure, solid and smooth.

So how is it?

At the same time I want a sequential that's firm and solid feeling with a good tactile feel - like the DSD or the ARC Carbon.

I was leaning toward the DSD but I like the idea of driving an H-Pattern every now and again..

Thanks for the link. I've actually made my decision and placed my order..

I liked the idea of the H-Pattern shifter, but after watching videos it looked to me like the Fanatec Clubsport Shifter wasn't quite there yet in terms of replicating a real gear box. The throw looks quite large, it still looked a little toy like - the low resistance in the middle, the clicking and clacking, and I didn't like the way the lever had play, or that the upshifts and downshifts had different resistances.

If I was to get an H-Pattern I would want it to actually feel like the one in my car, or else it just feels like a gimmick. Maybe the G25 really ruined it for me, as that was just terrible.

Anyway, the majority of the cars I'll be racing are race cars with sequential transmissions so I wanted a really good sequential shifter primarily.

I've decided on the @derekspeare designs Pro Sequential Short Throw.

Even though I can't use it in GT6 it doesn't bother me as I'm mainly using Assetto Corsa and soon Project Cars on PC anyway, I only really dabble with GT6 for a dose of the best Mt Panorama I can race on at the moment.

I'm looking forward to trying it out, the reviews are extremely positive!

lets be honest here, Can you justify 6,7 or even 800$+ shifter ?

Everybody has to decide about that for himself. I am happy with my older Fanatec shifter because most of the time I use paddle shifters anyway.

But I think it is important to realize that there are superior products available too.

Of course, I would have loved to get a Bodnar or Accuforce wheel and DSD pedals but Clubsport v2 pedals, Clubsport v2 wheel and a DSD sequential as well as all the other stuff that goes with it (PC, building materials for the rig, amp, buttkicker, eventually 3 screens etc) is already over the line really of what I am currently in the position of spending.

The DSD pedals are well over double the price of the CSPv2s, the Bodnar wheel is about 8 times the price of the CSWv2. The line is pretty steep after Fanatec gear.

That's not to say I'll be disappointed in my decision and left wanting, I'm sure. On the contrary I've had a dry run with my pedals with the upgraded shock and spring and it feels quite amazing, and the CSW rims are such an upgrade over the G25. Can't wait to feel how it feels with the base. And the DSD shifter is a 10/10 reviewed shifter for roughly the same price as the Clubsport Shifter.
