(Note to LM-- Sorry for ripping the title. Consider it a compliment to you and a valid excuse from me for my lack of creative thinking skills. :smilewink)

You are the parent of a newborn. While you [obviously] love your child, you soon learn from the doctor that your child will never surpass the mental capabilities of a 5-year old, even when (s)he has become an adult.

What would you do?

(Footnote-- The question is purposely vague, to leave the doors wide open for thoughtful discussion.)

I'd deal with it and just go along with my child. If you love your child it doesn't matter if they are bright or not.

Keep them...Its your child it should be your responsility to take care of it and if you love it then there should be no problem...

Indeed - there's no issue of resentment or 'washing your hands of the issue'.

It is your child, and it is not their fault - the child is fully deserving of your love and attention and it should receive such.

Get a brain transplant for the feller...they can do that right?

Actually I would just start teaching him as much as I could so that he could possibly be smarter than a 5 year old...

No.

In theory that sounds nice, and he obviously is going to pick up more during his lifetime than a 5 year old has during his 5 years but he would still be stuck with an IQ and EQ in the range of a 5 year old.

Call MistaX's mom and dad and ask someone experienced, in the subject, for advice.
