License help needed!

I'm currently on 46 gold, 14 silver but there are a few that are seriously driving me mental (pardon the automotive pun).

The iC final test (2 lap battle at Rome) is one of them. I have seriously tried everything I could, even altering my usual driving style (maniac mode) to try and get close to the lead Lambo, but forever finish second roughly 3-4 seconds behind.

Another is the FR Cone Challenge ( iB license) I'm still a good second off gold no matter how hard I try. Is there a specific trick to Golding this?

Lastly, for now, is the Schumacher S ( 'a' license) challenge. I am seriously 0.022 away from gold but just cannot find those fractions of a second needed to nail this.

Any input or questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks GT'ers. :)

This was the toughest license test for me by far - I believe the secret is to lift rather than brake before turning into the first part of the turn. And getting that turn in point just right is critical, you have to clip the kerb slightly on the way in. Managed it using the DS3 but I must have been at this one test for hours, almost threw the controller at the tv at one point.

I was once in your shoes when I was going for gold in my licenses. I eventually got all 60 golds but it wasn't without a million restarts and a lot of grinding. It sounds like you are very close to some of them. I can make 2 suggestions. Keep perservering. As long as I was seeing improvment I knew that it was just a matter of time....sometimes it was a really long time!

When I hit the perverbial road block I would go to Youtube and watch what Stune5 did. He provides a play by play which was also helpful.

I am once again in your shoes but now it's trying to gold all the Specials. I have been stuck on one for 2 weeks or more. Getting closer, just have to keep grinding.

I was stuck on this for ages too. I went back to it the other day, actually just to forward the UCD a day or so, so i didn't have my wheel set up. Using the controller and an auto box and the driving line set to off, i got closer on my first attempt than i ever had with a wheel and within 5 attempts i'd golded it. I actually got exactly the same time as the figure given for the gold. It's worth giving the controller a try.

Don't try to drive too smoothly, just throw it between the cones using a touch of brakes before turn-in on the last half dozen or so changes of direction.

I feel your pain amigo. I got that close using the DS3 as the wheel just wasn't doing it for me. It's obviously going to be one of those 'perfect' runs where a .01 degree turn in will make the difference. Dammit. :)

Thanks buddy, sometimes the motivation is better than the solution. I'll most certainly keep plugging for sure. Best of luck on your Special tests, let me know if you do it!

Sweet! I'll plug in the DS3 and swing it like a dead cat! Cheers bud. :)

With the cones challenge I golded it the one time I looked well ahead, as in not just looking through the two cones in front but to the finish line looking ahead of several cones.

The schumacher S test when starting it don't turn the wheel it gives you the correct line which will put both right hand side wheels on the grass just before you turn-in. I'm pretty sure this was the case anyway- it certainly was for the 370z one. I believe getting the correct turn-in point is crucial with this one.

The IC-10 was a mission I found! You just need to keep at it and get all the corners perfect until you get first place just before the final corner!

Hi bro,

The Schumacher test is my biggest headache. I have a habit of veering right from the off to give me a view of the turn in point. It could be this that's adding those few fractions of a second I need for gold. The BMW doesn't turn too well, and as you say it's all about finding that 'sweet spot' on the first corner. This license is slowly turning me bald!

I just did this one last night myself. Took about 20 minutes of trying it over and over. Finally just started really abusing the curbs and got it. Just takes a slight lift off of the throttle just before turning the nose of the car into the first left. Then back on the throttle the rest of the way after that.

A-8: Take a wide line in and use all the curb that you can. A good exit speed is important to get gold.

IC-10: A higher ABS seem to help keeping the car stable while braking meaning that you don't lose valuable time trying to correct the steering.

IB-3: Turn on Active Steering, it really helps. Just focus on your throttle and you'll be fine.

General tips: Be smooth and don't powerslide all the way through corners as you'll lose exit speed and valuable time. Also, if you can, use Manual Transmission. You'll have more control over the car.

All great stuff. Thanks for looking into it and replying with your input! I think with all I've been given here I can really give this a better go.

Team GTP FTW!! :)

I was, and am still stuck at bronze level on many lower levels but have all golds on the S level.

On the special events I have the most difficult time with the NASCAR challenges. In the rally car on the snow I can pass the first car to start before the finish, yet have a very difficult time in the gravel.

The X2010 is a blast to drive when I'm focused and doing it right. But one slight twitch and I'm off-roading again.

Yes, I agree, IC-10 was a challenge to me, until I decided to poke further into these forums for help, and I achieved it last night, solution:

Using G25 wheel,

ABS 6 or 8, everything else you can, off, and force Manual Transmission, keep it in high rev when drifting, or going uphill, and upshift an extra gear in the last section before the start line to maintain control of your car.

I also golded both slaloms with this tip:
Turn on Mild Steering Assist, and force Manual Transmission, everything else off.

Take your first set of cones wide, as you shift from 1st, to 2nd, and to 3rd,
when you reach halfway rev in 3rd gear, Upshift to 5th, hold throttle at 80%, (approx 110km/hr) immediately downshift to 4th, and full throttle the rest, or modulate throttle, up to you, but you will get the confidence needed to gold this within 10 or so attempts.

My wife brought me Good luck with the Slalom event, she placed a glass of beer on my bench as I was driving, and that instant I golded it . Thanks Hon.

stune5's videos on youtube. any time i got stuck i'd check out his stuff and ended up golding all 60 with a ds3.

for IC 10 turn up the ABS. it helps keep the car from crashing everytime you try to brake.

Haha! I'm not alone at all! This thread has been a revelation, I thought most of the guys (and girl maybe.....somewhere?) would have all aced these leaving me feeling like a div! It seems despite all the input, and great input, it all comes down to what's nervously grasping the controls. And motivation seems to be key in all the replies.

I call the X2010 the Clown Car. I just picture comedy music every time I see it in a replay! It's a bit OTT for sure. :)

The most in depth answer yet, and thanks for taking the time to post buddy. I have a wheel but it's more DFGT than G25. I think some of the tests are a tad easier with the DS3 though. It comes down to the squishy thing behind it at the end of the day. I'll take that all on board though, and can I borrow your missus for that golden luck? Mine cleared off months ago thankfully. :)

Happy days buddy! It's always good to hear a success story in the morning. The best of luck with whatever cones next amigo. :)

I did it!!!!!! 3rd attempt at the IC-10 license and I nailed that Lambo good and proper. ( chuffed face ) :)

Here were my settings

Traction Control : 1
Active Steering : Mild
ABS : 3

Worked a treat! The car didn't snake under braking, it didn't spin up under smoother acceleration an it glided through the corners by just backing off a little earlier to turn in quicker and get out faster. I did give the Lambo a friendly nudge onvthe second to last corner, but that was payback for the headaches and he lost it enough for me to get through and actually helped me turn.

Thanks a million guys. Oh and the Schumacher S is down to .02

A happy Irishman today indeed. :)

i have a lot of compasion for you.... i made the gold in all liscense and dam it was hard!!!!! did i say it was very hard....i acomplish them with g27 wheel and my my best help i can give you for youre times is youtube.....compare youre time with someone that made it so you will know were you lose time....good luck!!!!
level 40 a spec
level 40 b spec
license all gold
trophy list:100%

Shumacher 'S' ............. GOLD!!!!!!! 18 attempts and I said, stuff it one more go. You guys got it bang on, no brake but release/turn in/throttle. I find if you can get that sequence very quickly, 1-2-3, it's all in the line you take from there on. Man that was hard!!

Oh, I'll finish on bad news. The FR cone challenge? GOLD!!!!

Fling it like it's sticky was the advice, and that's what I did, second attempt and beat gold by exactly .250 of a second. Once the car starts squirming it can be used, under throttle control, to your complete advantage!

8 to go and Im 60 gold. :)
