I've been trying to get gold trophies for all the license tests and noticed some odd things along the way:
1) The instructions preach 'slow in, fast out', but on just about every single cornering test I notice there is no way you'll get gold unless you brake late according to the driving line, and also approach from a bit wide of the turn, ie. two wheels on the curb or grass. To me that says 'fast in, fast through, and fast out'.
Slow in, fast out = silver or bronze.
2) On one of the braking tests trying to get gold I was racing the ghost car from my previous best (but failed) attempt at gold. Both my car and the ghost car came to a stop at exactly the same time and position on the stopping grid, yet I got the gold. Is it possible the ghost gradually speeds up pushing you to do better? Anyone else noticed this?
3) I try again and again to get gold on a particular test with no result then finally on a seemingly otherwise unremarkable run I suddenly get the gold. I'd swear sometimes if you just grind it enough times it's as though the game gives in and decides 'okay, you've done it 100 times, here's a gold for you'. It's like the clock suddenly decides to slow down a bit to give you a break.
4) For the Super license in all the races there is no way you'll get gold unless you smash other cars for braking, cornering and taking out the rabbit...which is a h*ll of a way to teach good driving skills I say! (Good practice for online Dirty Nascar racing though...)
