In my Mazda only game I tried an RX7 road car against the Dream cars. I modified the setup but was still struggling.

I decided to have a bash at Like the Wibnd. To my pleasant surpise my main opponent was the Viper. I was lucky that the GTOne or 787B did not come up. And no I did not keep restarting until this happened. It came up this way first time.

My RX7 had max hp of approx 700. I maxed the gears and qualified second. I tried to draft the Viper but he actually had a little too much speed. So I was hoping he would have a bad pit strategy. On the 5th lap he pitted. I just overtook him but did not get any more than a 1 sec lead which lasted 1/2 a lap. He came up behind a backmarker coming off the final turn and onto the main straight. He ducked out from behind and went into the pits after only 1 lap. I concluded that he lost control when ducking inside the lapped car and accidentally went into the pits. Everything happened at just the right spot on the track for this to be the explanation. Anyway I got a decent lead out of this.

Lap 11 came around and he pitted again from just behind me. Lap 12 came around and he pitted again. He then pitted on 17 and 18.

I saved the replay to see what happened.

He had not lost control but on his first pitstops he went straight through the pits and did not get tires. He then did a lap on red tires and had to pit again to change tires. This happened 3 times.

I knew the AI sucked but this is rediculous.

It only happens sometimes to me. Maybe he's drunk while racing.

Therein lies the difference between artificial intelligence and actual intelligence...

Unless there was some logical explanation for why the AI Viper decided not to get tires his first time through the pits. Which gives me an idea...list any ideas you have for why the Viper didn't take tires the first time around. I can think of a few:

1. Other team's pit crews sabotaged his pit stall by coating it with oil so he slid right through without stopping.

2. He really did get new tires, but ran over a spike strip on the way out.

3. His radio was out and he went through to let his pit crew know that he was coming in next lap.

Ha, thats funny, the same problem the viper had happened to me yesterday, i went in the to pit and just passed my pit box

 Lol! Ran over a spike strip.. reminds me of NFS : HP2 :D

i know why really. Because the A.I. is coming to fast and doesnt have enough space to stop slow enough(50mph) and just keeps on going if he passes his pit. which is worst for him because ours is at the end of the pit and the AI's are first before ours.

This is not the explanation. I have the replay and have watched it. If this was the explanation then he would never get tires.

He pitted 6 times and got tires on pit 2, 4 and 6. There was no speed difference on entry.

Now that's an oddity. When I did "Like The Wind", I never really paid attention to the AI pitting. I used my TS020 roadcar with Turbo 4, and just went for it. I don't even think I pitted but I did lap everybody. I remember nodding off a bit and snapping awake about 0.5 seconds before punting the Mine's Lancer down the front straight like a football.

aaahhh so THIS is whats happened! i raced the same race against the viper GTS, and for some funny reason i noticed he pitted on a messed up shcedule! (5 AND 6) (10 AND 11) you know....a pattern....i never really looked into it but i guess now i know

that happened to me...i think the viper is too fast and can't break on time with it's red tires since it does go 240+mph which is why it stays right behind you throughout the whole race.....that's the only challenging car...the gt1 and 787b can't even stay with the viper....
