Likes in photo competition threads

This is probably a dumb question, but I haven't seen it brought up... I presume the "Like" function can't be turned off selectively can it?

I must admit it can be a little discouraging to even bother entering a photo competition when one picture already has 47 likes on it (exaggerating) but you get my point.

It might be a great photo, they usually are, but it can seem kind of hopeless when you see it.

The like function can't be easily turned off, no - the Suggestions forum brought that same question up when it was introduced - but I wouldn't worry too much about likes in the photomode competition threads - they don't matter, only the polls do 👍
