I've looked through all the threads mentioning LSD's, and nobody seems to have any information on how the fixed LSD systems work. I would assume it works something like this:

Initial / Accel / Decel
1-way = 60 / 60 / 0
1.5-way = 60 / 60 / 30
2-way = 60 / 60 / 60

The Full Customize Service lets you put each one between 5 and 60.

I'm having trouble comparing the different ones effectively, and I was just wondering if anybody has some real information on these. I can't just do 400M runs, because the LSD has no effect on straight-line acceleration, and I haven't come up with a good repeatable cornering test.

The place where it really matters I think would be on FF cars. The best setup for most FF cars with serious understeer is probably 60 / 60 / 5 if you brake early. If a fixed 1-way LSD would function like a 60 / 60 / 0, though, that would be slightly better, besides just being a little cheaper. But if the 1-way LSD isn't as strong, say it functions like a 40 / 40 / 0, then I would assume it wouldn't accelerate as well and you'd be better off with a custom 60 / 60 / 5.

I can move this if people think it belongs in the settings forum, but I'm not asking about settings, just looking for info on how the parts work.

I've not been able to come up with a good way to actually measure LSD performance in any GT game yet. For me, getting good bias settings on the Torsen is a trial and error affair.

The basic problem is that you're never sure which tire is losing traction first... the inside or the outside. Because of this you don't know if your bias is too high or too low...

I'd love to hear from anyone who's got a good system. Maybe I'll work on it some this weekend if I get some free time.

Yeah, it's just so hard to judge objectively.

I know, for example, that a 1-way LSD and a Custom 60/60/5 LSD both improve my lap times at SS11 in the Pro Vitz race by several seconds, but it's very difficult to quantify.

I mean, I won by 9 sec with a 1-way LSD, then I won by 12 sec with a Custom LSD, but my lap times were much more consistant with the Custom LSD, so I was probably just getting better at the race.

Maybe if I ask in the Hybrid forum, there'd be someone who actually knows the internal workings of how LSD's affect car stats.

When I want to fully upgrade a car, I buy everything...except the Full Racing LSD. I have a habit (origen unknown) of buying a 1.5 way LSD and never, ever worrying about it. I'm sure it does something...but I don't really know what.

Don't know why I didn't think of this before.

You can use tire smoke to determine which side is slipping under acceleration. This will help you tune your Torsen diff (Full Cust. Service). If the inside tire smokes, bias should go up, if the outside smokes, bias down.

I'm not sure about this, but I suspect the 1, 1.5 and 2 way LSDs are modelled after real life clutch pack style LSDs. These units typically only have about 2:1 bias ratio.
