Admit it or not, Classical music is just that, classic. Therefore, there must be one composer that was better than all of the others. Some say Mozart, others say Handel.

My current mood is telling me Beethoven.
 
Nobou Uematsu or Yasunori Mitsuda, but their not classical:p

I guess i'll go with Bach then.

no, seriously, Bach, or even chopin. Beethoven... how about Tchaikovsky? damn, all those guys were geniuses. and altough he is not classic anymore, Igor Stravinsky is a genius to me too.

Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto is, for my money, the best piece of music ever written, so I'll go with him.

I'm kinda bored with that to be honest. I hear it so often. It's good, but to me it's not special.

Ditto, whenever you go to a wedding, it's always there. I think it's overused. It's a good song, but it's used soo often during any event....


Now Beethoven's Sonata #5 and Sonata #21, THOSE are great songs! I hope I can get #5 down on the piano soon. #21 is just sooo long, but it's still a good song to listen to and I enjoy playing it on the piano. The first movement alone is around 15 pages or so, and the whole song is around 30. And then if you have repeats, well, you get the idea if you play music.... But they're both beautiful!
 
Alright. This is a thread I can participate in. I largely hate most music , no wait, all music today. I avoud listening to music because I feel surrounded by crap.

I have listened to a little classical in the past. Four seasons mainly. I have seeked out some on p2p after hearing them. You know, flight of the valkyries, hehe.

Okay, I want to know what is good. What should I look for. I would like to start listening to more classical, because it is just incredible.

Where should I start?

wow, you really use it in weedings?? damn. over here in mexico people almost wont know it. I didnt know it was overused in other places.

as for looking for classic/of-the-style music, Id very much reccomend Rite of spring, by Igor Stravinsky, pomp and circumstance (dont remember who composed it) and of course night on bald mountain.
 
Yeah's it's often used in weddings, for the part where the marriage register is signed. I usually have a small doze in that part!

I think "Pomp and Circumstance" is by Elgar.

Speaking of which, advanR, try Elgar's Enigma Variations which are nice and rousing. Bach's Brandenburg Concertos are fairly good, although the style can get a bit wearing after a while.

If you like Piano music, go for (as previously mentioned), Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto, or Beethoven's 5th (Emporer) Piano Concerto.

And since you like Wagner's The Ride of the Valkyries, listen to Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King from the Peer Gynt Suite I have to say that I only like that part of Peer Gynt though.

Oh, and for all-time classic value, go for Holst's Planets Suite, which is nice and varied.
 
Check out Beethoven's Sonata No. 21 It might be hard to come by, but it's a good song. Oh, and when downloading music, especially Classical, because of all the different sounds, don't settle for anthing less than 320kb/s really for music. An occasional 196kb/s might be decent in terms of MP3's, but it's still painful....
 
Oh, and a followup: Beethoven's Piano Sonata 21 is called the Waldstein Sonata. Played at full speed, it's 23 or 24 minutes for all three movements.

Sorry, but I guess because of copyright issues, GTP doesn't want me to link these. I guess if you want to hear them for yourself you'll have to find them on your own, either radio, store, interent, who knows. If you like it though, I suggest buying because the sound quality of most files on the internet and over the radio is so poor.

dont get 320 or less mp3, they suck. get BVR mp3s, ripped in --alt-preset standard or extreme.

Agreed. Though second runner-up might have to go with George Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue.

Beethoven was good at composing for orchestration, and Bach's music shows such rationality and system that I have to love it. Rachmaninoff was probably the greatest Romantic composer of all time, which also puts him high in my book.
