Lines

I want to know how to do lines in Photoshop. I'll also take a Fireworks answer.

I have some pictures and I want to turn them into line drawings but some of them are very precise and doing it by hand is far too tedious and sloppy.

Here's what I've been trying with no luck... basically I select with the magic wand and do a one or two pixel stroke. That's pretty messy. There must be a simple, neat way to do it.
