Links to individual posts don't work.

For some reason, when I copy paste a link to a post into an instant messenger, the link takes the other person to the entire thread, to whatever page the post is on, instead of to the individual post.

When I click the link, it takes me to the post itself. I don't know if it's supposed to be like this, but it wasn't before.

I link people to the funny picture thread a lot and it makes it frustrating when I have to explain the picture so they can find it first.

It’s supposed to work like that if you send the link to a non-member (I presume to increase ad exposure). However, if the person doesn’t scroll, the browser should jump down to the correct post.

That's correct. I first realized it was going to be a problem when a lot of major blogs linked directly to Doug's Ralph Lauren/Bugatti Veyron post. We lost an untold number of banner impressions and it really skewed our site statistics, so I knew I had to make some changes.

Ah ok, makes sense now, although now I have to tell people not to scroll.
Well, it's probably different in Safari-land, but I do believe Firefox and IE will jump to the anchor's location even after the user has scrolled.

Note to Jordan: You might want to consider adding the :target pseudo-class to “highlight” jumped-to posts.
That's a neat pseudo-class, but it is sure to raise quite a few questions to users who don't understand why particular posts are highlighted. As long as it was a minor highlight, however, it probably wouldn't raise too many questions.
