Linux?

Im sorry if this is the wrong forum

I'd realy like to know, if any of you have it or used it, what the Linux kit is like for PS2.

I write screenplays in my spare time (possibly full time, no matter) so, does it have a decent word processor and is it compatible with any kind of printer?

Thanks fofr the help, very much

All the Linux kit is (Quote from OPM Forums) "It's just the Ps2 Hard Drive, Screen *undetermined Flat or Reg*, a keyboard, and software needed for set up."

This is a soon to be released product, but whether or not there is a word processing device or not, i would suggest got it PlayStation.com and send an e-mail to the help department and ask them. By the way, the hard drive uses a special encryption (or atleast thats what the told me) so no idea if you will beable to make a slave along with the standard harddrive.

And OPM appears to be a bunch of ****. Also, the Linux Kit has been out for nearly two years - I bought mine over a year ago.

There are threads talking about this very thing on this very forum. Search and ye shall discover.

About the word processor, Linux has lots of options. Since the PS2 is a very unix piece of hardware you would have to custom compile for it. I think there are quite a few included (honestly didn't do much with mine after I got it), but there is nothing to the level of Microsoft Word. Plenty of flat text editors, both console and X based.

do I have to have broadband to dl anything?

thanks a lot. I hope to get this thing within the next 3 weeks, if I need some help,n could you help me? It'd be faster than the linux forums, I still havn't gotten my activation.

thanks again

eh... im not to sure, if you go to the PlayStation.com forums and ask, or send a message to the help column, im sure they could give you the answer.

Gimme some Unix, and an overly sized heat sync. But seriously, Microsoft is better, and Mike Rowe's web site ( MikeRoweSoft.com) is the coolest next to gt planet, and who ever said Mac is Easier than Windows, must have never worked with a windows cpu, though it does have its flaws.

Play Station needs to get to talking with Mr. Gates about Microsoft Bundle.

like i said, Microsoft does have its flaws, like before Mellinium there was no virus protection except the kind you buy (like MacAffee) So yeah, plus its really pic, but atleast most games and products are user friendly with it.

true, there are much more games for microsoft than Apple or linux, im sure of that. But I am not up for gaming, but for word processing.

I'll admit, openly, that Microsoft Word Processor's the best Ive ever used, but the way my computer acts, im just not up to fighting it every time i sit down.

and Ive heard that linux is much more stable, so Ib going there. That, and becvause I own a PS2

im a tauras so sue me, i grew up on Microsoft. When you do get used to something its hard to change, but i just really dont like the Mac interface

if you have more ?'s you should go to techtv's web site and join and look at their forums they have a whole bunch of threads dealing with the ps2 and the linux kits and the xbox mods i go there and they are very helpfull and easy to understand their expanations about the kit and what you can do with it after you install it like all the differant stuff you can use it for
