ok, i have been playin this game a while now and i still cant get the hang of how to drive good enough. i asked this before and everyone said practice makes perfect, and i understand that, but i am just not good. i have played the liscense tests so many times, but still not enough golds to win a car. i pass most of the tests with bronzes or silvers, but it seems like i cant get a better time to get gold if my life depended on it. is there like a special way to come off the line or what. if anyone has any ideas of what i can do.....lemmy know. thanx

Lemmy does know, but I don't think he is going to share with you. . .

Gold Medal Guide, now thats what I needed to, I was just too shy to ask about it.

Thanks DeuceofClub, 👍!

screw the gold's. as long as you can PASS the license tests you should be fine... however if u do want to get a gold and be happy, you're going to have to push hard...

i'd say that the easiest gold to get is the class A license test: 60M circle with the RX7. in order to get a gold on that, make as small of a circle as you can (stay near the line on the right, keep it in 3rd gear and keep your speed in between 60 and 65mph)...

let me know whenever you acheive that gold!...

oh and good luck:)

Yes, practice does make perfect.

Are you using the analog sticks, or the buttons? Proper throttle control and turn-in works worlds of wonder for shaving time off your laps. Proper braking is the other "secret". I tried for a long time to improve my racing, and it wasn't until I got a sharkport and a few fast guys (Thanks Boom!) sent me a replay (or two) to chase.

Are you using high powered cars? Controlling a 700hp car is incredibly difficult. Chipping a tenth of second of your stock mini time at Super Speedway is a miracle.

I'd suggest taking a low powered car (250hp) and work on throttle control through Trial mtn. Hence the Miata Time Trial at Trial Mtn.

Using the lower powered cars makes it easy to learn cornering and braking (as well as coasting) techniques. smooth application of the buttons is a big improvement.

The other secret to fast time? Tire sqeal. The more your tires are sqealing, the more time you're losing. Take a Stock Corvette ZO6 to Midfield. Hammer around the track ten laps around the track, then watch the replay from outside the car (3rd person). See how much tire smoke you have? Save your fast lap. Now go back in and maintain your speeds, but try to brake early, and smoothly turn-in. You'll have less trie squeal and Voila! a faster time.

Good luck

Its exactly like one of the tests in Gran Turismo Concept (Although, Yes the Game is Easy - Its Fun) You've got the GTR-Concept on Autumn Ring Reverse, if you hammer it without any consideration you'll be sideways in an instant, yes its fun but not the way to win gold.

After watching the demo, I learned that I needed to brake before the corner, with the famous slow in and fast out approach, not my brake at the last minute, dangerous method. After being able to take advantage of the DS2's pressure sensitive buttons the throttle was alot calmer and easier to glide around the corners. The smoother I was the more I shaved off my best time. The gold came instantaneously.

One thing that really hacks me off is the different license test times on PAL and NTSC. On B8, my last B test to get gold, I got a 42.833 when I needed 42.800 on PAL but the NTSC time is 43.000 flat for gold, it really makes me mad! :grumpy: - I will pass it when I sit down and practise, the corner after the tunnel is killing me, I can't take it as fast as the demo can but everything else is sweet - Wish me Luck!

Yes, but you PALs get to turn ASM/TCS off for the license tests and TTs, while we NTSCers are stuck with the robot interfering with our driving.

Now we ain't got that much of an advantage neon_duke ;)

Licence tests have set ASM and TCS but with Time Trials we can change them.

Best way to gold a licence is to get an xport replay, and if you cant get your hands on one of them, try some different lines from what they show you. I always tried to follow them but after i would watch a few replays i would be golding them consistently.

Then with the longer licence tests record your sectors times and see which parts you are losing time on and improve them.

Looks like PD assumes that PAL drivers are better than NTSC drivers? :p

I have seen more games with significant differences between PAL and NTSC versions, and I won't even start about the differences in release dates. I wonder what's the marketing miracle behind this, but from where I'm sitting, it's not doing it for me. :odd:

Have fun finding your lines,
Rolf

I just golded the whole of B license with the completetion of B8. I passed the 42.800 (PAL) with a 42.799, 1 thousandths of a second.

I've tried to recreate a better time but all I could get was a 42.862, forget it I got B done, coolies, now I'm off to do the rest of A.

I thought you can only do the license tests with the car and settings they give you?

I know what you mean ESMLefty12, I have 2 golds (B1 and B2:p) 7 silvers and the rest are bronze except for the uncompelted S livenses. I can't get them no matter what. I suck:(

Well, if you have a PS2, you should have a DS2.
A DS2 is the Dual Shock Controller that came with your Playstation 2.
