List of cars that simulate an automatic transmission properly

Anyone know how many cars accurately, or at least semi-accurately simulate an automatic (aka planetary) transmission?

The only one I've yet found is the SL55 AMG (P). It doesn't shift up under partial throttle, but everything else is automatic correct. It even creeps at idle.

Basically a car that shifts automatically with no lag at all?

If so, IS F, Evo VII GT-A and GT-R Concept LM Race Car (or at least it's like that in GT4) are notables. Also the SL500 R230 has one as well from memory.

Many cars now have a sport mode for their automatics, and GT seems to more accurately simulate that. It is what you would use at a track after all. Of course, not all cars have it.

The 458 is a good exemple of non accurate gearbox.

Changes like a F430 F1 transmission, but in reality is a dual clutch gearbox like the California...

Never knew that there were cars like that in GT5. Just tested the SL55 it also creeps in stationary when you use manual. That's kind of strange

Cars that have clutches will actually stall accurately when you use a G27 or Fanatec, like Corvettes. Cars that have automatics, appropriately, won't, like the GT-R and SL55. I'm not sure, but I think all standards are considered manuals though.

Automatic transmissions are only very partially simulated in GT5, unfortunately (when they are at all). For example, the torque converter on them is always locked and therefore the transmission never feels "loose" like it can in real life, except during gear shifts. The transition from idle to stall rpm doesn't feel authentic either.

Personally, I think it would be interesting to make at the same time a list of cars that are supposed to have a torque-converter automatic gearbox, but behave like clutch-equipped manuals.

Pretty much any GT5 road car I've driven with flappy paddles does the 'add throttle at low RPM' thing, causing it to creep at idle. Other than being really irritating, I'm not sure if that 'accurately simulates an automatic transmission' anyway. My standard transmission car creeps along just fine at idle when in gear, and all GT5 cars always are in gear. In fact, I don't think I ever noticed any automatic I've driven adding extra throttle to keep the engine above idle speed, but I didn't pay that much attention to it.

I noticed the creeping at idle the most on the SLS. It's rather taking off than creeping. Another car is the Z4 M. I think it's cool that PD took this detail into account, although I'm not sure if every (semi) automatic car acts like that in real life.

In addition to the ones mentioned, these are ones I've confirmed.

  • Jaguar XKR R Performance
  • Mitsubishi CZ3 Tarmac Road
  • Nissan GTR Concept (Tokyo Motor Show) - this is brutal in drags, 7 speed autobox!
  • Nissan Skyline Sedan 350GT-8

I've asked this question before too, and got nowhere, including a ridiculous reply about accelerating whilst not in a gear from a moderator who couldn't be bothered to actually read the post! (Or couldn't be bothered to process the information before engaging the fingers to the keys)

Mitsubitshi Lancer EVOLUTION VII GT-A simulates a auto-manual(shift tronic) transmission properly, and sounds like one.

GT-A EVO was the only Lancer with a manumatic transmission.
