What does everyone here think of the "Live the life" aspect of the game?

For me its a fantastic feature that I have always wanted in an F1 game, so I for one am very excited.

Codemsters ahve been experimenting with soup-opera aspects of the games from the first Race Driver back in PS2 era.

Race Driver 3 gave a perfect example of what they can do with detailed career mode, while implementation of menus and such in Dirt and Grid games gave assurancies that execution will not suffer - especially with next-gen resources.

I'm really loking forward to Career, it could become the greatest career-mode ever concieved in racers in this form (not to be compared with unique long-term RPGesque aproach of GT series).

I really can se Codemasters delivering in this one, finally achieving the idea seen in today forgotten EA F1 title "F1 Challenge '99-'02".

Can't wait!

I think it seems like a good feature but that doesn't mean to say it will be.

I know you get given a certain set of phrases depending on how your race went but I don't want to be saying the same things repeatedly because that will get boring.

Hopefully Codemasters have put some inventive thoughts into the 'Live the life' feature.

As Amar says, Codies have always done real career modes with their racing games. I'm expecting it to be very good and can't wait to play it.

I have a few worries, but I think it will be a solid game mode. I hope that the interviews have a good variety of answers and the "correct" one isn't obvious. My other worry is how the upgrade system will work, I hope there is more to it than a 1-10 scale for each area.

Do not have that much free time to use some of it for a 'pretend' life as an F1 driver; mIll stick to racing thanks (but I will buy the game when it is released in Canada).

I remember that, I had it on the original Xbox under the name, F1 Career Challenge, was slightly different to the PC one, more career based than the PC one. But it was ace, I love the slow mo letterbox style race wins:D.

I think sometimes the situation may sway you sometimes in your answer, if you get taken out by your team mate or another driver you may get angry in the heat of battle and say something you may regret, could ben interesting to see what kind of situation will arise from the races for the impromptu media to question you and pressure you on.

It adds personality to the game.
Hoping the AI is up to scratch. There's supposed to be different traits to each driver.
Cautious, aggressive, good in the wet.

Better than racing drones, hopefully.

Not sure which version to get. They seem to be showing xbox alot.
Dont think I've seen any PS3 footage. Gives me a bad feeling regarding PS version.

Well, why would the PS3 version ever be worse? :sly: Don't worry about it.

Do I recall correctly that many felt DiRT 2 ran best on the PS3? If not, it certainly didn't run any worse so no need to fret.

i voted 'Yes, great feature' 👍

i love the whole 'putting your name in the game' aspect thats becoming more prevalent in racing games nowadays

Superbike X does it very well

it used to really bug me that you had to choose to be someone else in a game

no longer though, its all good! :D

That must have been a long time ago - you used to be able to enter your own name in Geoff Crammond's GRAND PRIX, and that was based on the 1991 season.

hi :) was that on PC? my entire gaming experience has been based on console
until relatively recently, when i discovered GTL, GTR2 and rFactor

and iirc, putting your name in the game is quite recent in console gaming?

Nope.
You could do it in some Mountainbiking game for the PS1 and a racing game that I can't quite remember.

icelt

I'm sure it will be fine. Scepticism in my old age is creeping in lol.

Ok, I didn't quite recall that accurately. So I'll just go ahead and correct myself, save anyone else the effort ;).

Eurogamer: 360 vs PS3 Faceoff - DiRT 2

The conclusion:
Overall then, DiRT 2 is highly recommended on both platforms. There is still a performance advantage in playing on Xbox 360, but in the case of this game, the technical measurements aren't hugely relevant. As the same tech is almost certainly likely to power the forthcoming official Formula 1 title from Codemasters, hopefully we can look forward to an equally good game there too.

So once again, I wouldn't worry.

F1 Career Challenge had a great concept, shame the end result on consoles ended up being shocking. Poor physics, absurd slipstream effects and also the fixed length (8 laps normally) of championship races meant it was left for years in my "finished games" pile.

Well my career started two nights ago. After a miserable first race (never played an F1 game before) I won Melbourne.
Call me a corn-ball, but it was pretty cool walking into the press room and seeing the middle seat and mic waiting for me.
I love the fact that the responses are all so canned, so ridiculously cliché, it makes me laugh.
Racing Lotus now, gonna work my way up to McL.

Im finding the whole "live the life" thing really underdone. I was hoping they would have events you would have to attend (Like what redbull and renault do) and turn them into challenges or something.

Problem with that is if you really do have a life.
I find it just enough to be a nice respite for relaxing my eyes, reflexes and hands...
How much little stuff do you wanna do?
Perhaps driving through suburban traffic to purchase milk and eggs for this kids...in a Lotus Elise could be fun?
