Anyone else hate constantly having to look behind you to check where you're opponent is and to watch his moves? Even if I had the playstation eye, I'd probably find it annoying to move my head while holding my eyes steady to check the mirrors all the time.

Well, how about this:

We have a grid position indicator on the side of our screen that simply tells us a position, not a time. What if that indicator had the +/- split time on it? It'd make the racing a lot easier, cleaner, and realistic since in a real race, you have someone speaking to you over the radio on how other drivers are doing.

Basically, you could see that the two drivers behind you are 3 seconds off your pace and are battling each other, which would let you know you don't have to push and risk the lead since they will be progressively slower than you as the battle. Same works the other way around. If the drivers are a turn or two ahead of you, you'll see they are battling and you can push a bit harder to catch them.

It could also work when someone crashes. If you suddenly see the time of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place drivers go from -2.xxx/-3.xxx/-4.xxx to -12.xxx/-13.xxx/-14.xxx you'd know there was an accident ahead/behind you.

I don't know if this has been brought up before but it's something I find to be a possibly very benoficial thing to racing in the game, even more so online.

I prefer looking back or using the rear view mirror. I don't even use HUD in any circumstances. Personally, I prefer if PD introduced a simple voice command system where you can ask things like "What's my position?" and a voice would answer that. And if it has to be a HUD system- make it so that it's tuck on the side of the screen and not be all over the screen. And toggle switch to turn it off.

I think that would be really cool if you had a headset... and PD programmed a racing manger or Crew Cheif to give you information like that, and you could ask it simple questions like you said. This would be pretty awesome.

But as the op said, live timing would be nice to have as well 👍

Live timing isn't very realistic. Instead of getting numbers like "-2.345" and "+6.789" it would be more realistic if you could toggle a radio voice who just said "cars behind are gaining on you" or "you are gaining on the cars ahead". Doesn't have to be through microphone, there could just be a button to press and the voice would let you know.

Actually, it would be nice to have an entire team in the pit, not only could they give you reports during races, but they could be used when adjusting the settings of the car (just like the pit cinematic that sometimes appear, only now they actually do some work), they could offer advice on pit tactics (in races where there would be a need for that) etc. Also, before the race there could be a feature where you walk around in the pit area (a bit like the new NASCAR photo location) and see all the teams and the cars, maybe say hello to the other drivers... It would give a more intense feel in the actual race I think.

squirlybmx thats a great idea and would be very easy for PD to implement, I have a love for split times and regularly watch the live timing screens on replays or online races!

Why can we not have the option to turn the very cluttered HUD off and just have dials and split times?

I'd leave the hud off 100% of the time if I had someone telling me what lap I am on and what position I am in via a voice command system. What I really want is an option of not just top/bottom hud but a piece by piece hud option. Something where you could turn off the tach, and lap timer but leave on the tire life indicator, the positions, and the lap counter.
