Let's give as a prerequisite that GT7 will give the chance to players to download from www.granturismo.com a desktop livery editor ,that gives you the chance to create liveries providing blank sheets of the base models in the game (like the garage preview in GT6). Now instead of an ingame marketplace, it'd be cool to have a mobile-tablet-desktop app that provides for a general liveries archive. Filled and ordered with tags such as "Historic", "modern" or fantasy" ( just as example) users are free to rate , comment or report their and other's artworks . With the possibility to "follow" your PSN friends , there will be even "official" liveries released by PD themselves.
The idea just emulates the latest Carthrottle mobile app, of course special fitments can be made; choosing the numberplate to be used, if said numberplate has backlighting or else, or even if the number is painted over the livery ( see nascar)

That sounds like a good idea, but I think there would also need to be a way to download liveries from this "archive" directly into the game, maybe something like Forza's Storefront, where you can just search for any livery in game.

The point of having an app is to save space on the ps4 and overall gamedisc, something akin to the track app but that lets you actually download your selected liveries. One of my major complains about track path app is the need of internet connection; without you can't actually access custom tracks. With the livery app you would save the liveries that you actually need and want to use, while saving others only on the app for future use.

Incredible Idea! Would save a lot of disc space and leave a lot of available room for more in-game features. An out-of-game Livery Editor seems like the way to go TBH. PD wouldn't have to worry about having to reserve space or dumb it down due to it taking up too much room. Plus, they'd be able to make it as detailed as they would like since the base editor isn't going to be occupying any space on the game. I hope PD takes the Track Path Finder Idea and elaborates on it with a Livery Editor App. Would make creating a racecar livery more simpler and much more organized. (At least to me)

the only problem i see with this is the fact that people will NATURALLY produce "inappropriate" images for a 3+ game.

fair enough in GTA 5, but this is gran turismo, not grand theft.

I think that with any idea like this there is that problem as well. Since i dont play Forza, how do they control such things in their livery section? Could PD create some kind of control for this within the app?

possibly.

they'd HAVE to add a report function, and perhaps they could implement something similar to CSGO's overwatch, where players would have the option to view liveries and put their vote on whether or not a reported livery is legal.

just a thought

Now instead of an ingame marketplace

This is why I can't like this suggestion. The track maker is one thing; I don't want even more portions of future installments farmed out to another piece of hardware when they could easily be in the game.

A livery editor wouldn't take up much space on the disk, and liveries themselves aren't huge files for the system either.

Forza liveries are governed by the population; if you see something inappropriate, you report it. Much like games such as LittleBigPlanet functions, or, more appropriately, even GTPlanet. :)

I guess the Forza population is different than GT population, so if something is inappropriate we all vote it off or just kick it out of the room. Not really a big deal for myself but i would not appreciate my daughter, who loves to race and draw, to see something that some stupid person thought was funny to put on a car. well this is after all just a suggestion thread and kinda a wish list.

There's a report button for custom tracks as well:

I wouldn't know about that, i'm no programmer or graphic expert but a fully modeled livery with dirt-scratches doesn't look like something heavy, the point here is strictly related to the quantity of liveries downloaded

Thing is even if we could get a livery editor...it would be more load on the network. The coursemaker save files are only a few kilobytes in size resulting in a few seconds to download/transfer but custom car textures could be anywhere from 1mb to 10mb in filesize. I know Forza is capable of this for a very long time but the slightest thing in GT6 causes network errors and disconnections and PD aren't adamant to do anything about it :(
