Do you remember the days when race cars did not have wings? The days when horsepower was king which then turned to handling was king on the race track? I do. I wanted to start a thread for any tuner out there, open to all, to offer up their interpretations of modernised classic race cars. The concept is simple, you can do whatever tuning you wish to a car with the limititations of no rear wing, and your car must be on race tyres (no higher than Racing Medium). The thread is open to any car at all that is a 1990 model or earlier (including race cars), as in Australia this is when the modern era of touring cars began. I started this thread as this kind of car is almost useless in GT4 with the exception that some may be able to beat JGTC/DTM cars, so most tuning garages would avoid this retro style of tuning as they wouldn't garner enough reviews. I'm keen to see your modern interpretations of classic race cars.
I would like to ask you to PM me before posting a car if you are unsure whether or not it will fit in with the theme of the thread. Please be sure to include any and all parts included in your tune in an understandable structure. Once you post a car I will post a link to it and who it was done by in this home post.

At first though I'm happy for you to tell me whether or not this is a good idea, if you all think this is not going to fly then I shall have this thread blocked/removed.

R-tyres are overkill if you have under 600bhp.. and AFAIK, Supra 2.5 twinturbo and 300ZX are nearly the only ones to reach such power within the bracket you gave.

When you say 1990 or earlier, do you mean 1990 and older or 1990 and younger?

Leo, theres a load of cars that can go beyond 600bhp ;)

I'll have a go at this when I get home. :)

yyeaaahhh, so there is.. but I often manage to forget that musclecars could do well too.. oh well.. ;)

Not all of them are muscle cars either ;) hehehe.

Really want to get home and tune now... bah college >_<

N4HS, I'm more than willing to bet that this wins 'Thread of the Year'.

Because there already IS a club racer contest going on! The VTC!

Yes I know, but limitless cars per person, slightly later years available (a full decade to be precise) no wings allowed to reminisce of race cars of old. This is a thread to collect Club Racers, a Club for them if you will. And it's not a contest. Not to mention that I naturally got the idea from VTC :P

I forgot to mention guys, if you are part of a garage and want to still post your car there that's fine, but if you post it here as well, then maybe provide a link to your garage for anyone that wants to do a review, that would be awesome. I have a '69 Camaro Race Car on the way seeing as there seems to be a couple people interested enough that this might stay alive.

And Leo, it doesn't matter if R tyres are overkill on the lower powered cars, old race cars still had lower power and R tyres, and this is a modern interpretation of them, but feel free to equip R1 tyres on some you feel are too low powered.

And in truth, S1 tires are more accurate representations of 1960's tires, but they're a little too unforgiving with their level of grip loss after slip is encountered. R1s in comparison are sticky as hell.

MODERN interpretations, the Biante Model Historic Touring Cars in Australia are exactly this kind of thing- classic cars like Monaros, Mustangs, Camaros and Toranas among others with more modern engines, better suspensions, brakes tyres etc. And how many cars that you have on S1 tyres can beat cars like the Zonda LM and what not. None, but these classics are not about that- they're about making old cars into better modern beasts. If you don't like it nobody said YOU have to submit cars here.

I drive one (a 600hp car) on N3 Road tires as my main car. Much closer to something along the lines of Potenza RE-01 or similar.

i.e.: road-legal.

...which is like trying to drive Kristi Yamaguchi :sly:

S1's ARE a more appropriate simulation of sixties tires, yes, but most of the club racing sanctioning bodies don't just allow, but REQUIRE modern rubber, along with a host of other modern safety equipment. Semi-amateur drivers + 30 or 40 tuned-up classics on period-correct tires = horrible crashes of rare six-figure machines and wanton death.

Do me a favor. Don't bite heads off. You could have explained that with a good bit less attitude.

And I never said that I don't like the idea.

I just disagreed with this:

old race cars still had lower power and R tyres

I beg your pardon? Every time I say something on this site someone always has to try and contradict, then everyone takes that person's side. I make it a habbit to not start things but only finish them.

Hmm... The first post wasn't what I was referring to, and I've already explained that.

You said that classic racecars had R tires when they in real life have nothing of the sort. So I corrected you on it.

I think I know why this thread exists at all; and that's because you're unsatisfied with not being able to run R3s in the VTC Club Racers.

Not really, my C3 Vette still handles great with R2 tyres, and seeing as this is just another place for people to take shots at me I will have it blocked- sorry to anyone who might have been interested in this thread.

Agreed, let's lock or delete this little argument, but let me get a point in.

I say:

You reply:

So, who needed the attitude adjustment?

Let's move on. If I do come to this, there's a good possibility that I will have AWD.

RJ just shut up and keep to your self for a while...HUH think of that

It's no point dimplz, he hasn't listened to anyone I've ever seen, and there's no point in lowering yourself to his level and getting yourself in trouble.

It is becoming evident to me that the people all over GTP are not what they used to be. There is still good here but the best thing for anyone to enjoy this site is to keep a low profile, take my advice new members. And never offer your opinion.

You guys are funny.

People who are constantly blockheaded and will not listen to reason, even if it's staring them in the face, are the ones who should keep to themselves. Sure, that may well mean that I'm being a hypocrite, but it's true. If someone actually wants to learn, or at least attempts to listen to what other people are saying, there will be no problems.

People differ in tastes, and opinions are like *******s; everybody has one. And of course, not everybody's opinion is the same. And that is where most good discussions stem from; unfortunately, it also starts many a flame war. So don't get pissed if someone's opinion is not identical to yours.
