You have to make sure you get a new game save on that day. So, if you just log in, get the bonus, then turn the game off, it doesn't count. You have to log in, then load a race or buy a car or do something to save the game in order for your daily bonus to go up every day.
I think it does save when you get the x # of paints and museum cards login bonus once you press it. You still need to make sure not to load a previous "Save File" tho.

Thats why i have "Overhauls are overpriced phobia." Thats why i stick to underpriced cars for breaking in. I'm just to scared and cheap to pay 500k for an overhaul.

Yes but GT5 saves after every little thing that you do, with a couple odd exceptions. It saves immediately after getting the login bonus. Hell, the first thing the game does after booting up and loading the saved data is save it all over again.
I swear I must have wasted nearly a full 24 hour day of my gaming life waiting for GT5 to save. Probably 2/3 of that time for no real reason(other than some ridiculous and largely ineffective obsession with stopping a small subset of "cheating" that doesn't harm anyone). It's got such an overactive and time-wasting autosave system that it's just begging for the option to turn it off... except it crashes constantly so no one would dare.
It does fail to save some things when it autosaves for some reason (perhaps only in some instances?), so it is best to manually save however, as you said. But I can't recall ever having issues with the login bonus after a crash.

UHHHH? 💡 you could just save with the save button in the corner. I log on daily save never race and get my bonus. It seems like the network is still down and they removed the post stating the problems resolved.
I think that if you have a previously saved file in your USB drive that's inserted into your Playstation that somehow affects it.
I think this because, whenever I miss a day in GT5 and my login bonus goes down by 10%. I then do a trade or gift a car and back up my save before I gift. On my USB then I have a save with a login bonus of let's say 190%. If I don't take the USB out the day after it drops 20-30%. I cannot explain this, and don't even know how it's possible, I don't reload from the USB the day after, as I don't need to. So why should it go down?
Adversely, if you have a save with a 200% login bonus and miss a day you can somehow keep your bonus.
I would like someone to tell me if this is possible and if it is why? Because its really grinding my gears!
