Hi, guys I'm planning to get a steering wheel soon as GT5's release date is coming around, but I'm having trouble deciding on a wheel to buy and I've narrowed it down to the G27 and the Fanatec Carrera. I'm pretty much set one one of these wheels unless theres a wheel within the $250 or less range thats better. Can you guys please help me distinguish the difference between the wheels and decide on what's better. Thanks!

Well in terms of wheel, the Fanatec wins, it has stronger FFB adjustable steering from 90degrees to 900 in steps of 10.

However the G27 is quiter, if that's important to you.

Pedals, the G27 will win because they are metal so would just feel more durable, apparently, the Fanatec pedals aren't bad and are pretty good but its the plastic.....

Shifter is the Fanatec, it is just more solid, doesn't feel like a toy. But it is slightly harder to mount unless you buy the ClubSport Clamp. The two rods are just abit wobbly.

Price, I bought the Fanatec for £175 and the cheapest G27 I could find was £220. So if you want to comprimise a better set of pedals and get a cheaper wheel, Fanatec.

Go with Fanatec, if I were you, save up more money for GT3 RS Version 2 with clubsport.

The reason is to spend more because once you buy a normal wheel, you will want more, so there for you will upgrade in the future anyways and thus having to buy another wheel. So save up bit more, and get a proper wheel for the future.

My interpretation is that the G27 was quite alot better than the 911 Carrera wheel except for the H-shifter.
Especially the pedals seems alot nicer, BUT, the G27 costs quite alot more (atleast here in Sweden).

This has ALWAYS been my philosophy.
BUT, in this case I feel that the price for a G27/GT3 is a tad too much.
The 911 Carrera feels JUST about right.
The only worry I got is that there is no other wheel that I know of in this price range (DFGT is quite alot cheaper and the G27/GT3 is quite alot more expensive).
Do you guys think that you get what your paying with the 911 Carrera?

Yeah, it's a great wheel for less than $200... but I think the G27 shifter and pedals are better.

Agree with this, pedals being stainless steel feel great in socks/barefeet, i didn't think i'd use paddle shifter's but they are much better than expected, great wheel, and shifter is great and very easily mounted.

I mounted my G27 to like 4 different desks and tables and lots of very bad DIY solutions before i took the plunge to get a cockpit. But it did show me how easily mountable/removable it was to different household objects, mounting is no issue.

Fanatec is gonna be a great buy also, but i assure you wouldn't be dissapointed if you did decide the G27 option.

I just got done with this experiment ...bought both the Carrera setup and the G27. At that level the Carrera can't compare...and I sold it.

There are a ton of responses on this topic if you poke around so I wouldn't go into crazy detail....I actually started with th DFGT, then the carrera came in....I went back to the DFGT until the G27 came in...that should say something right there

Disclaimer: this is like eating a tuna sandwich....some love it, some can tolerate it and some just don't like it...it's all personal preference.

So if you like a racing feel go g27 no questions. If you want a more car, grand touring type feeling go carrera ( this is also without budget/compatiblity not taken into account;)

How about GT3 RS V2 + Shifter + Standard Pedals compared to the G27?

GT3RSv2 has programming, smoother FFB (belt drive) thicker wheel rim w/vibration, and it's very orange. But the G27's pedals and shifter are better (IMO) than the standard Fanatec stuff... which is STILL PRETTY GOOD, but not "paying an extra $100 for" good. Also G27 still has a better mounting system and is very plug and play. And buy the time you're done buying everything and waiting 6 months for your shifter, you'll wish you'd bought a G, and your wallet will too.

Seriously MuRRe, I if was you I'd get the Carrera, I think you'll like it and it price is right... BUT... if you're gonna get the Carrera, do so because it's a great wheel at a smoking price, not because it's better than wheels that cost twice as much, because it's probably not. However, if I was in the "under $200" wheel market RIGHT NOW it's the only one I'd get, because I don't like the lack of a clutch and separate shifter on the DFGT. And remember you can always upgrade the Fanatec standard stuff later, and that's pretty cool.

I actually put an order down on the 911 Carrera, BUT, afterwards I realised it wouldn't ship until mid-april and I need it before that (for a 24 hour Les Man with a friend).
Damn...
So that's why I'm considering the GT3 VS R2 with shifter and standard pedals.
NOW, lets assume they put out the Clubsport Edition again for 320€, which would you take?
GT3 + Clubsport = 320/360
or
GT3 + Standard Pedals + Shifter = 280

Clubsport. The most underrated part of any driving setup is the pedals, and you're gonna want those pedals. If the standards are a throw in with a budget package, they're fine. But I don't see myself buying them as a separate accessory, you know?

So mid-April on the Carrera huh? Looks like the Fanatec shifter famine finally caught up with them too.

Yeah, that's the answer I expected.
Without a H-shifter for GT5, what are your thoughts on:
1. Realism, how many of the cars in GT5 are ACTUALLY using a H-shifter in real life?
2. Competition-wise, are the shifter padals faster than H-shifter (depending on what level you are on too)?

I find myself using the shifter when I want to screw around, and the paddles when I want to win, as there are just too many times I blow a shift at a critical time in a race. The shifter is really cool tho, and I love being able to jam through the gears in a classic car event rather than being all fake by paddle shifting.

are they out of stock? it says they have it...

Pretty sure they're getting held up by the shifter shortage, and since they don't sell a "pure" edition, the whole package gets held up. They need the CS Shifter to be announced, then I bet the demand for standard shifters will come right back down to earth!

I was between both but i was going to buy the fanatec because the price. Finally I bought the G27 because i found a very very good offer.

I think that you believe that the fanatec carrera is a cheap gt3, and it doesn't, they aren't similar in any way.Look comparsion: http://www.fanatec.de/html/pw_overview.htm

The only thing that the carrera is better than the g27 is the configuration, the rest is worse:

-Pedals: The fanatec pedals are more similar to DGFT but with clutch. Plastic and very flapy. The only thing that i miss on the g27 pedals is the abs that have the CSP.
-Wheel: The fanatec is all plastic, the g27 is iron and leather.
-FF: Fanatec 1 motor and smooth, g27 2 motors and direct.
-Shifter: The fanatec shifter holder moves alot. its made of plastic, and very noisy. The g27 shifter isn't like a toy (thats the g25) its made of iron/plastic and have leather (very realistic).
-Support: undoubtedly logitech as you know
-Price : of course fanatec. But i found on ebay a new g27 wheel for 3 euros more because the packing was damaged. The seller sold 400 units of g27 in 4 days

Remind the G27 is twice expensive as fanatec carrera, so its imposible that the fanatec is better than the g27.

Cheers
