I just got a G27 for Christmas and I was of the understanding that it was not fully supported by the game. I hooked it all up Sunday and discovered the controller profile was fully customizable and then discovered that the rev lights work as well.
When did this happen, was it an in advertised part of the 2.02 update?

It was updated with spec 2.0.

Support for the G25 and G27 was added in 2.0 in October

For the record, the rev lights worked before spec 2.0 as well.

Yeah the rev lights worked pre 2.0, most of the other functions did too but you had to set it up as a Driving Force GT if i remember right, again if I remember correctly all the buttons worked except for the steering wheel, only the top right and top left steering wheel buttons worked. 2.0 gave it it's own profile in the settings menu and made setting it up a whole lot easier as well as being able to map all 6 buttons on the wheel. Again, if i remember correctly, but I'm pretty sure this is accurate.

Awesome, I never saw it being fixed. I was a little worried before I hooked it up that it would a big pain in the ass with GT5.

Next question: What would be the proper way to start a race with the "false start penalty" on, in a manual car?

I'd say go for it if you like rules for things that need rules and the feeling of playing the game as pure as possible. The only thing I don't keep realistic regularly is mechanical damage.

What?

Hold your e-brake until go-time.

yeah ebrake or regular brake if you're using an automatic. if using a manual just the clutch would do, at least on the courses i've raced with false start check on. Not sure but it's possible that there are courses with the start/finish line on a hill even slightly which may or may not cause the care to move if the clutch is depressed, but i haven't come across one yet (haven't had many races with that on though either). Somethink like Eiger though may very well have the start/finish on a non flat part of road though.

What do you think of the Shifter and clutch? It seems to be a little slow to me, like it doesn't like it when you "speed shift.

You have to time the clutch just right. I can usually get some pretty quick shifts, but still miss at times. End up using paddels whenever I need absolute consistency. It would be nice if they tweeked that function, very annoying cause I like to be able to use the shifter.

Read this PD to "fix" this for the next update! :)

Next up, get yourself a proper stand for it if you don't have one already.

I feel like I'm having the same issue at times. Its difficult to get the timing right sometimes. Although I'm have a bigger problem with downshifting. I tend to either miss the downshift and end up trying to find a gear while I should be turning or I lose the back end when I come off the clutch mid-corner entry.

Also my attempts heel-and-toeing haven't gone well. I feel like when every time I get the footwork right I actually miss the shift. Does the game not let you heel-and-toe or am I just messing it up lol?

Yes you can heel-toe but you need to get used to it. Don't worry with some practise you can easily get shifting right.
