Ok. So most of you probably read my thread a while back about picking a steering wheel. Mostly in anticipation for GT5. Well I ended up with a Logitech G27 for a couple of reasons. One was price, which I found on sale, and two, I have a playseat, and supposedly they are awesome with each other.

But I have a concern. After purchasing the wheel, I came across alot of people(mainly on forums), about having centering issues, and the wheel straight up not working(although the pedals and shifter would). And these complaints are on the logitech forums.

But I also know that most of the time in the "internet world" and forums, that people will almost always complain about problems, and post them, but rarely post up the good things.

I guess Im just a nervous buyer, and I should be for how much these wheels cost. And Im not just talking about logitech, but all the other ones as well. Im having the same concern as I did with my xbox 360. lol. I had it sit in the package brand new for like 3 days, while I researched. I know, im weird.

Anyways, I was just wondering if people on this site could post up their good experience with this wheel. I hope there is some. lol. Maybe ease some of the tension. lol.

And sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. Mods can move this thread if needed.

Thanks

well hopefully is will work great with gt5....

it not totally flawless with gt5p, it has no seqential switch so flappy paddles dont work...

there also is no deadzone so theres a nasty FFB spike in the center.

compared to the g25 it's quite smooth, I like that in gt5p, has a nice realistic feel.

Well I'm very pleased with my G27. I can't compare it with other wheels, like the Fanatec because I have never owned another wheel besides the Microsoft sidewinder.

Don't worry and start playing. If there is something wrong, you definitely get a replacement wheel from Logitech. Their customer service is very good.

The G27 is pretty quiet. Sometimes it jerks when you put the FFB too high but that's not a defect but a feature.

Au contraire to other people, I really like the RPM LED's.

It's a good wheel and I'm happy that I chose Logitech (€ 100 cheaper than from Logitech)

Thanks to Dustdriver and Tones!

Ya, I think sometimes I'm a worry wart. Thanks for the info guys. Now I just have to wait till christmas to play. :grumpy:

They don't in GT5P.

I have not played much GT with my G27 - mostly GTR2, LFS and RBR - it has been great for all of them. Love it.

Well with my Fanatec wheel, all I do is shift and accidently unplug the short cable from the shifter; then all I can use are the paddles. (But I plug the shifter back in)

Lets face it, even with a new wheel, you might get the non-calibration or loosing centre problem, so you either send it back or open it up and do Logitechs job for them, and fix it with some super glue !

Ya, on the logitech forums, people were opening them up, trying them and within 3 or so days, they go bad. Hope mine is good.

Logitech customer support is awesome. They respond pretty quickly and are no fuss about replacing parts you are unhappy with. On my old G25, the steering wheel center cap fell off and I accidentally dented it putting it back on. It was very thin metal. And they replaced everything no questions asked.

I'm glad i'm not the only one. Why on EARTH did they make the shifter cable so short?

Anyway, to be more on topic. I don't own a G27 but i own a Fanatec Porsche Wheel, and i can tell you they are not perfect either. So basically you have to realize that despite the price you are paying these are still cheap steering wheels and they will not always be free of defects or faults.

That being said they are very good and very fun, and as long as you understand that you aren't getting something that is perfect in every way i think you are going to get a lot of fun out of it. I know i have with my Fanatec.

When I ordered mine, I also ordered an extra pedal wire for $2 because I was going to mount the shifter to my playseat g25 shifter holder. I haven't found a good way to do that yet, so I'm just using the chopsticks. And I find the normal shifter cord to be perfect length when using it with the supplied hardware so I do not have wires hanging everywhere.

I do knock it out though every once and a while when I get out of the seat and my leg hits the plug since its mounted on the bottom of the shifter. That's the only thing I dont like about the shifter is how it plugs in at the bottom.

thanks for the replies. Ya I think I'm just worrying too much. But now the other problem, waiting till christmas to use the wheel :grumpy:

They replaced the whole wheel just because the centre cap fell off ?

Yeah, I'm gonna buy the extra 2.5m cable but the shipping is horendous!

I'm gonna do that, when I need to buy more things from Fanatec, but for now with the chopsticks.... It sometimes comes out and sometimes stays in.

Yes they replaced the entire package no questions asked. Wheel, shifter, pedals everything. They sent me a shipping label, I sent it to them. Once they received it they shipped me an entirely new G25 package.

YEa Im sure you have to take the negative info with a grain of salt. I'd say buy it if your happy with the feel and layout of it. Friend has one has been perfect since hes bought it.

Actualy the only issue i just thought of now is one of the pins to connect the wheel to the pedals was bent and wasnt going in, if that snapped that would have been it for the wheel so watch out for that ****.
Mechanically I think they feel extremely sturdy and reliable compared to other wheels. I feel like the tightening hinges on my DFGT will break any day.

Yeah, take the negative info with a grain of salt, until it's your wheel that goes faulty !

thats not making me feel better. lol. but i know it could happen. oh well. we will see come christmas time when I actually get to play.

I've used a G27 a handful of times and got within .15 of the current WRS leader after 30min or so. Everything works great. And my G25 is still good after 2 years.

A wheel will always have it's faults (my PWC clamp just 🤬 up on me) but from when I was using it it just gave me joy endlessly. The same is what is going to happen with your G27, it might have a few niggles but Logitech support are great and if anything happens, it wont ruin your GT5 enjoyment.

(But now I have to shift £300 for a rig and I thought that I could use my 'make-do setup while saving up for another PS3 and then get the rig... oh well )
