A few of my friends and I have decided that we want to embark on a co-op online game since. Since only one of my friends has a PS3 anything on that system is out and only a couple more have 360's. We all have really good desktops though so we want to stick with that.

We do not want to play a fantasy MMORPG like WOW, WAR, or Guild Wars mainly because it's repetitive and takes a million hours to get anywhere in the game. There are going to be 3 or 4 of us playing it at a time and we would prefer to have some sort of story mode to complete since an all out lets kill each other gets boring after a while too.

I have looked at Left 4 Dead but I'm sceptical if that will be any good, it seems an awful lot like Dead Rising which I found to be rather meh. I've also looked into SWAT 4 which I'm told is supposed to be pretty good if you have a group of people who know what they are doing.

I suppose we would prefer a FPS but really anything will do as long as it isn't a MMORPG with War in the title. I know my buddy Jimmy has looked into space sims but the only thing he came up with is Freelancer and we played that to death back in the day.

I was thinking Swat 4 but you already thought of it, Swat 4 for me is the greatest coop exerience I have ever had and I still play it from time to time with a couple guys from a 'clan' I was in.

Even of you don't know what you are doing in Swat 4 is fine, you will pick it up pretty quick. The fun stops though when you get one guy that runs off on his own who has discipline.

Cool, I'll have to see if the guys want to play it. The good thing is it's really cheap. I think that's what holding us off from getting Left 4 Dead. I don't really want to spend $50 to shoot up zombies over and over again. Thanks for the head ups on the game 👍!

For the feel of realism Swat 4 can't be beaten. It really puts a sense of mandatory cooperation in your mind. I wouldn't be so fast to put off Left 4 Dead though.

Although there are only 4 chapters (16 total maps), no two play-throughs are going to be the same. And it's not just the zombie locations that change, either. The med-kits, weapons, and even boss events are put at semi-random locations to keep the players playing smart. The key part of L4D though, is the fact that the 'director' (fancy name for the AI that places zombies/items) tries to force the players into a panic mode. Good teams with mics will not have any problem running through (except on expert) with almost no casualties, but one person who's any more than 20m away from the group can ruin the whole level.

Overall, if you're just looking for a game that's going to be plain hard, stick with the Swat series (maybe even the Rainbow 6 series), since that is the style that really caters towards co-operative play.

Yeah swat 4 is very fun. Ghost Recon: Advanced warfighter 2 is good as well, though i've never played for consoles. Everyone's raving about Left 4 Dead, and I thought the demo was very very fun. :) There's also the splinter cell games which seems to have problems running on vista...
