Looking for game suggestion or advice?

Hi

My non gaming girlfriend has watched me play 'The Last of Us' for a few hours tonight, and remarked that if there was an exploring game that wasn't violent or involved shooting/killing/fighting she would be interested in giving it a go. Can anyone think of anything for PS3 that might fit the bill? I guess it's unlikely in view of those factors being fairly key to an exciting game, but you never know I suppose...I know you can play stealthily but I think she's more looking for the pretty landscape kind of thing...

Anything spring to mind at all please?

Cheers and thanks in advance.

Dear Esther. It's only on PC but it isn't a demanding game.

Not exactly a game. More like an interactive narrative. You can view the landscapes and listen to the story, but you don't necessarily interact with the world, just the story by choosing to go one way instead of the other.

hmmm The only game that comes to mind is Mindcraft which is on the ps3.

Minecraft is a good suggestion, too. The PC version allows for much more customization through mods which can make the game even more beautiful than it already is.

True but he said his girlfriend is not much of a gamer and it sounds like he plays alot on ps3 so why get the pc version and mods when they're not gonna be playing that much, probably not even online.

I would suggest Minecraft too but perhaps in Creative mode as it can actually be kinda violent and harsh in Survival :)

She might like some of the more atmospheric titles out there too such as Journey, Flower, Flow, Papa & Yo (not well received by some but I quite liked it), even Limbo is dark but not blatantly violent, though pretty much linear rather than open-world.

Proteus is also good, though quite odd the emphasis is certainly on exploration, and it's non-violent :)

Thank you all for your responses. I did own Afrika years ago (it was never officially released in the UK) and I guess I will start to trawl eBay and such for it...good call that one thanks.

LittleBigPlanet - yeah, let me look into that too. I also thought about that PS3 Home thing on the X Menu...will give that a look as well probably.

Cheers gents.

Journey! Flower is also quite nice as a sort of toy. You could also get GTA IV and just not do any violence... Maybe? Some people use it as a 'going for a walk' simulator on PC. There's also Terraria, aka Minecraft 2D.

And @Tyger, Limbo is pretty violent! Playing as a little boy who can be skewered in a spike pit (amongst other things) is a bit grim.

If you want to get into the PC/Mac options, http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/Walking Simulator/ has a list of user-tagged games that fit the bill, though a lot of them are just... Well, completely false. Nether is a DayZ-like, for one thing, but this is the problem with letting anyone do the tagging. Some off the top of my head include Cairo, NaissanceE and 9.03m. Starbound is quite good but if you definitely only want PS3 games, Terraria is more or less the same thing just with less variety (since Starbound has multiple planets you can visit) but is probably more complete as I think Starbound is still in beta, or maybe even alpha.

Agreed. Journey, big time.

Perhaps the HD remaster of Ico wouldn't be completely out of the question. Not open world, but pretty sedate, and still inspired and inspiring.

I consider Starbound an "ongoing development" type of game, like Minecraft in its earlier stages. But it's already a more complete game than Minecraft is today, IMO, and it'll only grow. It's fantastic. 👍

Thanks to all you guys who took time to answer, a copy of Afrika (Hakuna Matata) duly sourced from eBay...everything is now good in the garden :)
