Losing cars on trade, any way to get them back?

I have lent to a RL friend of mine some cars since he is a bit behind me on the game, a 430 Scuderia and a Audi R8 5.2 in order to beat some races.

They did not show up and I was wondering if there is any way to recover them? Is there a petition system or anything?
 
There is a thread about losing cars in the marketplace near the top. They are recommending no trades until sony fixes it.
