Just in-case any of you have or were thinking of buying it, iRacing just released this note.

By now we had hoped that all of you would have destroyed many virtual Lotus 49s trying to go flat-out through Eau-Rouge but, unfortunately, that has not been the case. Although we have made terrific progress on the car we hold this particular vehicle to a higher standard due to its legacy in our development history. So we have decided to take our time with the car and continue to develop it so that it meets our expectations and -- hopefully -- yours.

With that being said, we have taken the car down from pre-sale. Anyone who has pre-ordered the Lotus at this point will be given full credit for the car in iRacing credits ($11.95) that can be used any way they like. And when the Lotus 49 is ready to be released, those who previously pre-ordered the car will get it for free.

Thank you for your patience and understanding and know that we are looking forward to racing the Lotus 49 as much as you are!

Just posting this to stop confusion later on. With the work they are putting into this car I think hope this car will really be accurate.

This is what happens when people really know what they're doing, I guess. They've done some Grand Prix games before, they'll continue.

I pre-ordered so I could get Oran Park and Zolder, a little spewing I have to wait to drive that beast, but the fact that I get my money back and then get it for free when released makes me pretty happy :)

Free? Now I wish I did pre-order it... :p Good on them though, most companies would just delay and act like nothing ever happened and still charge people despite the delay.

It does kinda suck it's delayed, but I pre ordered so to get my money back and get the car for free is awesome. Now I can take those credits and get the Mclaren. See there is a benefit to pre-ordering sometimes :).

Lol!! Same here!

So now with the free car credit I'm unsure what to buy. The only car I own is the Skip Barber F2000 in which I'll be running the full season. Does anybody have a recommendation for a Group C road car to move into next season?

I'm sorry but planning to release a car you've been working on for over a year, then at the last minute deciding to hold off until god knows when means that you know what you're doing? Is that what you're saying here?

I could use the free credits and all, but this is ridiculous. I'm glad I preordered it but this is really stupid on their behalf. I'm not saying they should release it before it's ready but what I am saying is they never should have planned to release it if they're clearly this far off finishing it. It's a joke. Makes PD look good even

You sound like a pro modeller and animator, why not jump in and give iRacing a hand? I'm sure they are waiting on your expertise, I'm not sure how they made it this far without your help.

What would you prefer, getting it now and finding out it still needs work or getting it for free a few weeks later and finding it is perfect?

I know what my answer would be...

And also, do you know how much work and how many hours go into making these cars look and drive great? A lot is the answer, and especially simulators like iRacing that try to get them as realistic as possible.

Be patient, give them time and don't complain until you actually know how much work and time goes into these things.

It tells me they set pride in their work in front of pride in delivery dates. The reason I like iRacing.

They deliver a product they are proud to that we love, in these days where the quality isn't important, but quantity is. I find them to stand out. To bad they promised a delivery date, but they probably thought it was done when they figured out a bit later it wasn't ready.

Quality control is probably a word that is forgotten, but iRacing seem to remember it. 👍

I can't even figure out how they do the physics that accurate, that race car drivers find the setup of their car in the sim useful so they can bring it to the real car on the real track.

Other seem to think. Oh they scanned the car, now release it. That's how GT5 works(sort of), not iRacing

I think GT5 car's are having all the same physics engine. They change the values a bit dependig on the car/tyres/grip/dowforce/steering/speed/wheater/etc.
Then if you play the game alot like i did, the cars feel the same.

It feels like Iracing build there cars separately, one by one. The cars feels unique to eachother. I intend to jump from car to car and always have to adapt again becaus of this diffrence in handling.

This is how it feels to me anyway.
