Lotus Elise: Which is the best version?

Ya so I've been killing myself trying to win the Professional Tuning event with my Elise 111R. Basically it is my fastest car right now and I am best at it so I figured itd be cool to win with that. (That and the Aspec points are insane: 167)

But I just need a little extra oompf... its aggrevating. Which is the best Elise to max out?????

I only have experience with the 111R which I believe is more cruise/regular. But I think the motor sport is a more racey version of the elise. I don't know... so far the best bet is the "Motor Sport Elise 99" because that might tune the best.

(
I guess you could say I am also a Lotus fanatic ever since gt3!! And I cant stand any other cars weighing more than 800kq haha!
)

One suggestion I heard is to add a little ballast on the more bouncy/hilly tracks because I have level three weight reduction.

Another is to mess with the ride height/springs and such which will also help with losing traction on bouncy parts.

for those of you reading I've been running on El Capitan trying to beat the cars. The hardest car is the tuned RUF cars... GOD soooo damn fast. Stock is like 386 hp... but this is a tuning race so they probably have like four or five hundred hp... ridiculous... I almost won the race but in the third lap i fudged it and lost it. (driving perfect is soo damn hard...)

Motor Sport Elise seems to be a bit more stable and perhaps a tad faster. That is the one I've been using in the past with success.

Don't know a lot about the Elises - I'm not a big fan of the lightweights - but I would suggest that if you are having trouble at El Capitan then you will have Buckley's at some of the other courses - from what I have seen the AI is especially bad at El Cap and you can make an extra 5-10 seconds per lap on them that you just can't get elsewhere.

My favorite Elise is the Type 72 - a-spec champion!

the ruf cars are tuned in thier stock form. so its conceivable that they dont recive further tuning in the race

god, please use the edit button, dude.

ballast will get you nowhere unless it's a last resort for achieving balance. i'd say the previous-gen elises are the best ones, but the 111R should carry you well. how exactly are you losing it on the track? i'f you're bouncing around too much or bottoming out, you might want to try softening the suspension and adding a little bit of height. we can't diagnose anything unless we have your set-up and specs.

bad ai?? and I still cant win... wow. I am screwwed lol.

Also any reason for the type 72?

And while I'm at it... do you not like the lightweights because they dont have the big huge power??? or why?? The lighter the better!!!

I mean lightness = better accel... better braking... better handling... better usage of the available power.... cant go wrong anywhere! *Cept they are more unstable....... *

awesome reply. I will post now the specifics. Mostly it seems to be a driving thing. Whenever I am getting upwards of 140-160mph it gets REALLLLLy finicky and you have to go straight pretty much with SUPER fine adjustments... all else will cause loss of grip and massive crashing. *I dont know if that can be fixed with tuning due to the Elise super-lightness*

-=But anyway here is my specs=-

All upgrades bought (NA Tuned lvl 2.)
Downforce 20 front / 25 back
Brake Balce 3 front / 3 back *It goes up to 20... Could this help???????!*

(suspension)
Spring rate 8.4 / 10
Ride Height 89 / 89
Shock Boun 7 / 7
Shock Re-Bo 7 / 7
Camber 2 / 1
Toe 0 / 0 *toe in would help for straight away stability right? what degree and number. pos or neg?*
Stabilizer 5 / 5

Thanks in advance

Like I said - a-spec champion - meaning this thing gets awarded big points for winable races (MR Challenge, Spider and Roadster)

Its the stability - and I like something that the AI can't play air hockey with !

I haven't raced anything other than the 111R tuned to about 218hp. I'd just stick with that, I love it. When I get some spare time, I'll buy every Elise and compare them all, stock form, around Apricot Hill. I feel Motorsport Elise will be the best, because of the extra edge it has with the downforce and stability. The S2 stock Elises will be an interesting category.

For El Cap, when you leave the tunnel, don't brake anywhere on the uphill. You can easily catch a good line down the hill without having to brake at all. The AI takes it granny style.

You could try to change your springrate. I allways use harder springrate on the frontwheels, because the car will not change its weight forwards ass much if it dont dive, during breaking. I would also say, that 10 on the rear wheels is too much on such a light car. El capitan is also a very bouncy track, so your tracktion will get worse whith such stiff suspension.

Yeah, I agree with dudejo:

The Elise Sport 190 has 190hp, lightweight (670kg) and cheap (around 42,000 or 32,000 depending on mileage) - avaliable in used car lot II quite often - check the full used car lists for exact days. The 111R is pretty sweet too and the Type 72.

Good luck!

In my expereince the Elise is one car that benefits more from proper suspension setup and good driving than just maxing out the HP.
I would lighten up the springs and play with the LSD settings. MR cars will come around in a heart beat suffering from lift off oversteer. The decel setting on the LSD can help this somewhat.

the link to that one thread was pretty huge. wow.

Things I noticed:
1. "LSD will help a lot, start with 23/40/20. Increase the deceleration effect as needed,, to help stabilize the rear while decelerating into a corner. Increase camber to 2.0/1.5." -from link
2. lower the spring rate and shock absorber bound/rebound. ... this will fix the bouncy ness problem.
3. add more downforce to 20/30 to rear...
4. add a little front toe in to add high speed stability.

I also agree with dudejo. I think the Sport 190 is by far the best. Its handling is perfect.

Get that one. Preferably in Bright Red

well, i use the lift off oversteer to keep my car in line, so i like it.

I'd pick the Motorsport Elise or the Type 72. I've had the best experiences with those two, and I've put 5 out of 6 (Elise, T 72, 111R, 111S and MSport) through rigorous (sp?) 'training'...(I refuse to use the 190 >.< I hate it) both stock and tuned.

Another tip on the settings; Like Synik said, loosen up the suspension. The rideheight looks fine but set springs to 8.5/8.7 and dampers to 2/5 both bounce/rebound. Use Syniks LSD tip, that looked right, but the downforce should be 20/28, and set stabilisers no higher than 3.

Some good advice here, here's what I would do with your settings.

1. Turn the rear downforce all the way up, then turn the front up to the point where it starts to get unstable.
2. Lower the shock bounds to around 3 or 4, but turn the rebounds up to 8 or 9, otherwise you'll keep going up an down after you hit a bump
3. Definitely get an LSD, as that can be a HUGE factor in tuning a car for balance.
4. You'll probably need to lower the spring rate a little since the car is so light, but I couldn't say how much unless I've driven the car.
5. Also, if the rear end is coming loose on you under braking, put in -1 or -2 toe on the back and it will really help calm it down.
6. Raising the rear brake force to 4 or 5 will help "anchor" the rear, as long as you don't turn it up too high so that they lock up.

That should help out, but I'd have to drive the car to tell you much more.

I used a stock 111S (on S1s) for the Tsukuba 9 hour race the other day and it is the best handling car I have driven. Always has a tendency to oversteer which can be controlled with ease (ASM=0). This is one car I will never buy any aftermarket bits for.

i love the elise sport its one of those cars in the game that i just go drive for fun around tight tracks.
