Lotus has finally unveiled its much-anticipated track day car, the 2-Eleven.

To be shown at the Geneva motor show next week, the Exige-based 2-Eleven promises the typical Lotus qualities of super-sharp handling and super-light weight.

The 2-Eleven tips the scales at 670kg, and packs 252bhp from its supercharged engine. Lotus claims that gives it the power-to-weight ratio of a 1960s Formula One car.

While the 2-Eleven is based on the Exige S, and uses the same close-ratio six-speed gearbox and 1.8-litre supercharged engine, it's had the wick turned right up.

Power is 252bhp at a screaming 8000rpm, while torque is 179lb ft at 7000rpm. There are also racing brakes (AP at the front and Brembo at the rear), and five-spoke lightweight alloys shod with Yokohama tyres.

The bodywork is bolted on for easier changes, and the chassis is an adaptation of the Exige's, with epoxy bonded aluminium alloy extrusions and high sides for added protection. An FIA-compliant six-point rollover structure with integral harness mounts is standard.

The first 2-Elevens will roll out of the Hethel factory in April, and will be available only in Launch Edition specification - a garish three-way Lotus Sport colour scheme.

The Launch Edition comes in two versions. There's a self-explanatory Road Going Version, which has front and rear lights, an exhaust catalyst, rear wing and other items to achieve compliance with UK requirements, and a Track Only Version.

The Track version has an enhanced aerodynamics package including high downforce carbonfibre rear wing, high downforce front splitter, brake lights and rear indicators and FIA approved driver's race seat.

The Track car will sell for £39,995 - £5100 more than the supercharged but less powerful Exige S - and the road-legal version for £41,095. Outside the UK, only the track version will be offered.

Jumps up for joy! Finaly Lotus thinking outside the box. Much cheaper than most of its rivals too lets hope it is quicker than the current Lotus bad boy.
I my opinion as much as I like it I dont think it will sell to well really. Although If I had the money and was wanting a thrill then.......maybe :)

There's your Atom Smasher. Right there.

There's your Atom Smasher. Right there.

I was going to post something along those lines - I reckon this'll be a quicker track car than the Atom, though it loses out on power and power-to-weight to the 300 (and the 245 for PWR).

And it's not blisteringly ugly like the KTM either.

I'll have one, and then stick a audi unit in it. Shouldnt be to hard or expensive going by other audi engined elises/exiges

Audi is being too stuck up with themselves to outsource anything.

Looks brilliant!

Is there any news on lower spec models? This seems a very high spec model for a release day.

Look for more information in the official Lotus press release in a couple of days. This AutoCar establishment broke the press embargo for the publication. 👎

I'm still updet that they went with Elise headlights. The design of the car went downhill with every release from Lotus. First was this:

a digitally edited model of the Elise. Then they had a more official release, this time a working car, seen testing (and crashing) at various European tracks:

Definitely blander. It definitely looks far better with headlight delete, which is why I don't like the latest release that much. I've seen some photos from an owner of an Exige Cup 255, which is pretty much the same thing as this car but in Exige trim, which is also sooo killer.

What's wrong with the engine it comes with?

I'm pretty sure they're too heavy, I'd just stick with the Toyota VVT-I engines which can be found back in Elise's and I think maybe Exige's as well? And then spice it up a bit 👍

Which engine is the 2-Eleven fitted with?

The same supercharged Toyota unit as found in the Exige S - only tuned for a little more power.

Not enough torque, and reliability is a bit of a grey area with that unit. Toyota themselves had to down tune the 1.8 because too many were going pop.

Also alot of elise owners seem to be going for audi units when tuning their cars, and im sure they arent going through all that hassle for no good reason.

How much does the toyota engine weigh in at.

You don't need much torque in a car that weighs only 670kgs. A modern F1 car produces probably less than 260lb/ft torque and seems to go pretty well on a track. I've driven an Exige with the supercharged Toyota unit, it pulls well from low down in the rev range all the way to the red line - and that was in a car weighing 950kgs. 179lb/ft is plenty sufficient. Lotus tunes its toyota engines itself to suit the Elise/Exige - it's not just a out-of-a-box Celica engine.

How much reliability do you need from an engine covering probably less than a thousand miles or so per year?

Many more go for the Honda Vtec unit.

Define a lot, and then could you possibly back that up please. Because from what I understand, very very few Lotus' have ever had Audi engines put in, either way I'd have thought the Honda K20 was far more suitable and far more popular to put in a car like the Elise.

The honda unit probably is more popular, I never said it wasnt or anything of the like.

Alot being quite a few.

Poverty, you don't know anything about what you are talking about. Zero. An owner buying a 111R car and dropping in a Audi motor over the Toyota model is senseless and dumb. Do you know why?

...

It appears no. Most swapped cars are on pre-111R cars, where they were substituting the motors on those because they were Rover powered, and thus cheaper. Nobody swaps out Toyota-powered Elises.

It would be no use, Michael.

Poverty, why do you post something if you know very little about the subject, other than to pointlessly advertise your obsession with Audi?

+ I'm pretty sure that 1.8L Audi engine weighs more AND it deliveres no more power then the Toyota engine does AND as we all now Toyota is ALOT more reliable then Audi...

And it's not blisteringly ugly like the KTM either.
Yup, its even uglier. The KTM is not a very good looking machine, but atleast it was designed with no windsheild in mind. An Elise without a windsheild looks like crap.

It reminds me of a S2000, but smaller.

I fully acknowledge that I dont know much about elise's. Why do people stick in audi engines in place of the rover one, instead of the toyota unit though?

If its possible can you make a list of pro and cons of the different engines/transplants that are available for the elise as I would find it interesting. Also if possible how does it affect the cars handling, what are the characteristics like?

This thread is about the Lotus track car. Not Audi.

I remember one of the main complaints about the new Elise compared to the old one was that the ZZ engines was the total lack of low-end grun compared to the Rover K.

This thread is about the Lotus track car. Not Audi.

I want to learn more about lotus' and the different tuning options pro and cons. Maybe I should create a seperate thread for it?

www.seloc.org

The 255-optioned supercharged 2ZZ does away with any of the low-end torque issues. This car is fast, I'd say the 211 could easily swing under 4 seconds to sixty, as well as it being balanced like a top.

So now you are acknowledging that you don't know much about the Elise, quite strange as a few days ago you were talking with great authority about them....

As for the backbone chassis I read that back when it was introduced it was the best thing since sliced bread, but that in this day and age its no longer number one.

There is a similair story to Elise's chassis, although its still more or less in contention as being a class leader. The technology behind it however didnt originate from Lotus.

2. We were talking roadcars, not race cars. The backbone chassis is not a suitable for a mass production aplication. It is not strong enough for bigger, heavier cars, and its not very good for crash protection.

Lotus supplied De Tomaso a backbone chassis for their Magnusta and that experienced chassis flex. Not good. Therefore I wasnt wrong.

Race cars design is very different to road cars. We were talking roadcars. ;)

3. I never said that the chassis wasnt designed and built by lotus. What I said was that the technology behind it, that allowed lotus to build their chassis so, and what made it so special, didnt originate from lotus.

Also the lotus elise chassis is good depending on what is required of it. Its not a space efficient chassis, and it requires a high door sill. The design of a car might have to be altered to accomodate it. Carbon fibre monocoque chassies are better also, making the lotus chassis not a class leader. so no, I wasnt wrong at all.

...the problem being that you were wrong on all these points. So it would appear that you posted this information knowing full well that it was incorrect, at the very least you must have posted this with doubt in you mind. It is however posted as fact, so we have a bit of an AUP issue here don't we....

AUP
You will not post any material that is knowingly false, misleading, or inaccurate.

....and quite simply this has continued for long enough. You have posted a huge amount of un-sourced and incorrect information and when proven wrong you simply abandon the thread in question and try to pretend it did not happen.

If this had been the first time this had occurred you would have simply been given a warning, however you have been warned many, many times over this and taken no notice of both the staff and numerous members. Quite simply you time here has come to an end.

Good-bye (Banned)

Don't worry, i'm sure someone else will come along to replace him soon enough. :trouble:

I think they call it the Young_Warrior effect in text books.

Oh is it a permanant ban, I thought bans on forums are temporary? :scared:

That is quite a cool car. Only 9 more months until I get my lisence and I already have $200 saved up lol.
